Why mix the music so loud?

The frustrating thing with this film is how loud and distracting the music is. What is said in the archive footage and in the newer interviews is fascinating, but the filmmakers apparently did not trust the words to carry it.

How could this get to release without someone saying, "Let us hear what they are saying."

I thought they did a *beep* sound mix as well. Also, the sound during the "Debates" was pretty fecking murky, too. It should have been cleaned up a bit.
