Action, action, action, endless ammunition, and Justifiable Homicide

This stylistic actioner is so much over the top that if Director Isaac Florentine had added a few winks and a nod, he could have made a great farce. Endless -- and I do mean ENDLESS -- ammunition, magazines that never empty, dozens and dozens of rounds fired from the same clip.

Ironically, our hero Colton MacReady, the reputedly highly-trained war hero, can't shoot worth a damn. Despite firing hundreds of rounds through a frame building, he rarely actually even wounds let alone kills anyone with a gun. He does dispatch multiple individuals (18? 20? I lost count) in hand-to-hand combat, showing off his expertise with a swift flip kick dozens of times. He flourishes his knife and sticks several bad hombres in the neck, but remarkably he never wears more than a drop or two of blood.

Given the readiness of a couple dozen bad guys to die for their boss, and MacReady's willingness to oblige them, this movie should have been named "Justifiable Homicide".

If action is what you want, action is what this movie delivers. Just don't worry about characters and meaning, and be sure to leave any your sense of disbelief at the door.

None of the bad guys live of course. All of the cast under "Rest of cast listed alphabetically" are just there for filler, waiting their turn to wade into the death machine known as MacReady. He kills every last one, including the sheriff who finally decides he's a bad guy, for good.

In case there's any doubt left in your mind, this is definitely not a chick flick.

It was a chick flick just for the knife to the groin;)

Most of the women in chick flicks need a knife to the groin given how *beep* annoying they are.

In my opinion, Close Range had nothing much going for it other than being 'mean-spirited' and being uber-uber-uber violent. That being said, nonetheless I enjoyed watching it...and found it 'entertaining' though I definitely don't think it was a very good movie since it was nothing more than violence for violence sake.

Whenever I see movies like this, I always relate to the 'hero' or the one who's the 'lone wolf.' As a general rule inferior ethnicities (wetbacks) and sheriffs, 'pigs,' 'bulls,' etc. are so damned stupid and inferior that they feel the 'need' to 'gang up' on people to have an 'edge': It would NEVER cross their minds -because they're so damn inferior and stupid- to want to be one person against the world or one person against many in a fight. They're so cowardly -even with their 'buddies,' fighting training, weaponry, and every conceivable advantage possible- that they still are 'paranoid,' and 'cowardly' and don't feel confident in a situation where they and their NUMEROUS buddies are going up against ONE person. All 'pigs' are the same: They're the most generic, jock-like, cowardly, expendable, stupid, personality-less, dumbasses who exist. "Pigs" aren't 'good guys'; that's a myth. They're nothing more than stupid nazis who will follow ANY order regardless of what the order is...and whether or not it violates someone or their privacy or not. Good guys don't do this; good guys don't follow orders no matter what: They reflect and have consciences and would never put someone in handcuffs or not mind viewing another man naked (unless they were a homosexual) and do many other countless things that stupid, generic, personality-less, expendable "pigs" do.

I have always related to being alone 'against the world' in a fight because I'm 'superior.' Even if I was against overwhelming odds I would feel far more confident than all the expendable dumbasses I was fighting against -who numerically have the overwhelming advantage. I loved seeing MacReady shoot pigs and wetbacks and do all kinds of bodily damage to them in the most graphic way possible. If anyone ever attacked me, I imagine that I would -once they were down- stomp on their skull a thousand times and break every bone in their skull especially if they were trying to do me serious harm. I have rarely if ever seen a 'protagonist' stab someone in the groin area like MacReady did in this film which was awesome to see: I fantasize about doing this to *beep* 'pigs,' and many other kinds of people all the time and doing all kinds of other vicious bodily damage if I were in a fight as well.

Like I said, not a great movie but entertaining and watcheable. The action, stunts, fights, and gun battles are very hard-core and realistic. 3 1/2 stars out of 10.
