Action, action, action, endless ammunition, and Justifiable Homicide
This stylistic actioner is so much over the top that if Director Isaac Florentine had added a few winks and a nod, he could have made a great farce. Endless -- and I do mean ENDLESS -- ammunition, magazines that never empty, dozens and dozens of rounds fired from the same clip.
Ironically, our hero Colton MacReady, the reputedly highly-trained war hero, can't shoot worth a damn. Despite firing hundreds of rounds through a frame building, he rarely actually even wounds let alone kills anyone with a gun. He does dispatch multiple individuals (18? 20? I lost count) in hand-to-hand combat, showing off his expertise with a swift flip kick dozens of times. He flourishes his knife and sticks several bad hombres in the neck, but remarkably he never wears more than a drop or two of blood.
Given the readiness of a couple dozen bad guys to die for their boss, and MacReady's willingness to oblige them, this movie should have been named "Justifiable Homicide".
If action is what you want, action is what this movie delivers. Just don't worry about characters and meaning, and be sure to leave any your sense of disbelief at the door.
None of the bad guys live of course. All of the cast under "Rest of cast listed alphabetically" are just there for filler, waiting their turn to wade into the death machine known as MacReady. He kills every last one, including the sheriff who finally decides he's a bad guy, for good.
In case there's any doubt left in your mind, this is definitely not a chick flick.
