Plothole?

So if Hon supposedly died in the fire 25 years ago, then who were the cops referring to when they were looking at "Hon" corpse near the end of the movie?

And what about the scene at the beginning where one of the cop died from the gas explosion. We think its Hon who caused the car explosion and who also let Dave lived because he owed him his life once. But again, if Hon has been dead for years now, then who was the masked man?

The only explanation that I can think of is that Hon somehow survived the fire and became a robber. If this is the case, I think the story wasn't explained very clearly then.

Any thoughts on this?

Hon didn't die 25 years ago. The cop that killed Dave's father accidentally looked like Hon which caused Dave to remember his father's killer and repressed memories of killing the cop and triggering his mental disorder. Hon was killed after the his guys tried to betray him and he fell off the hill.

What about the scene where Hon was burnt alive in his house? And I'm pretty sure the cop that blocked the molotov that reflected back at Dave's father was Hons.

reply

Ok, so here's what you have:

2 Hons, 25 years ago, Hon the cop, blocked a molotov by Dave's dad, which bounced back and burned the dad.

Young Dave goes and burns the cop Hon in his house.

Adult Dave saves Hon, the criminal in the hospital (not the same person as Cop Hon), this Hon looks like the Hon that Dave killed 25 years ago, he didn't see his face clearly but it awoken something in him.

Criminal Hon dies after his trying to escape, the rest of movie then has the third special only DLC character Hon( the Hon inside Dave's head) ... i guess 3 Hons total lol

how do you explain the police hon who smiles and shoots at people?

i was wondering when Hon has died. the cliff fall killed him? weird way to finish off a main character, we don't even see it happen..[spoiler]

reply

Yeah, it's weird to finish him up that way but you know, its part of the big final "reveal".

I really loved the film and performances, the story, while average, it's well directed, the only downfall of this is that the movie was predictable.

I felt a bit cheated too initially, as I thought there was no closure to Hon Kong's death but it was revealed when the cops were identifying his body in the morgue, after Dave has manipulated three deaths of the robbers. I suppose this was the twist that indicated one has to rewind all appearances of Hon Kong to Dave because they were just in Dave's mind, including the instigation by Hon Kong that he is not the only member of the robbers.

I understood most of the movie except the part where Hon Kong died. On reading this, I watched it again and realize that gf_ripper is right: Hon Kong died 1/3 through the movie when he fell off the cliff. The rest of his appearance were in the mind of Dave. Except when the police were called to recognise a body in the mortuary somewhere near the end (after Dave was instigated by his mind's Hon Kong to set each member against each other). I just couldn't recognize Nick Cheung in the decomposed Hon Kong then plus my bad Cantonese.
