Nothing about the reunion(s)? Also what a sad waste of talent...

I assumed this was made before 2006 when they did the reunion tour -- I guess that seemed like a big deal at the time to me (well it was a huge deal to see them play Spiderland live). Maybe there's just that much to the story -- I'm sure they made some pretty good money. I saw them at Great American in San Francisco back then, now I see they're playing the Filmore which is 3-4 times bigger than GAMH. I don't really want to see them somewhere that big -- and I can't think of much of a reason to anyway. The opportunistic reunions (and re-re-reunions like the Pixies) of the past decade have pretty much sapped most of my nostalgia about the bands of my youth.

The saddest thing to me about this band is how much they took for granted the almost magical chemistry that they just happened to have. They didn't go through 5 drummers or other crazy internal politics that keep many bands from staying together. They seemed fairly democratic in the creation process, which is such a rare thing (when done well). They did gloss over whatever happened to Brian I guess -- not sure if it was a drug problem or other type of mental illness. Which is funny because Britt comes across as the craziest one IMO. Either way it was a convenient excuse to break the band up over some very vague, lame reasons. He probably wouldn't have been able to tour or deal with success anyway, so maybe it's best in the end. I just think they might have had one or two more great records in them, if they could record Spiderland in a weekend...
