5/10. Here's why / Esta es la razón:
Dialogue vs silence with music score vs pure silence. I'm sure you've heard/read that neither of them is better than the other and that it depends of the movie. Yes and no. It depends on the scene. None of them should represent 100 or even 90% of a movie. That's why NIE YINNIANG (THE ASSASSIN) doesn't work as well as it could have. The silence feels pointless because script writers Hsiao-hsien Hou (who's also the director), Cheng Ah, T'ien-wen Chu and Hai-Meng Hsieh still rely on dialogue for exposition. That's how we learn about the title character's origin and how we learn about her weakness (having human feelings). Both of those things could've been shown. It's fine that Qi Shu doesn't display a lot of physical effort during the fights, because it shows how good of a fighter YINNIANG was. However, other actors do the same thing. That means that the directing isn't very good, but the choreography is. So is the stunt work (we see people being struck by arrows!). The cinematography left me speechless.

Diálogos vs silencio con música incidental vs silencio puro. Estoy seguro que han escuchado/leído que ninguno de esas es mejor que el otro y que depende de la película. Sí y no. Depende de la escena. Ninguno de ellos debería representar el 100 o incluso 90 % de una película. Es por eso que NIE YINNIANG (LA ASESINA) no funciona tan bien como hubiera podido. El silencio se siente inútil porque los guionistas Hsiao-hsien Hou (que también es el director), Cheng Ah, T'ien-wen Chu y Hai-Meng Hsieh igual dependen de los diálogos para la exposición. Así es cómo descubrimos sobre el origen del personaje titular y cómo descubrimos su debilidad (tener sentimientos humanos). Ambas cosas pudieron haber sido mostradas. Está bien que Qi Shu no demuestra mucho esfuerzo físico durante las peleas, porque muestra lo buena que YINNIANG es peleando. Sin embargo, los otros actores hacen lo mismo. Eso significa que la dirección no es muy buena, pero la coreografía lo es. También lo es el trabajo de riesgo de los extras y dobles (¡vemos gente recibiendo ataques de flechas!). La fotografía me dejó sin palabras.
