There was a loose narrative there and while a film strong in silence and contemplation, the narrative was strange and hard to follow.
shareI've seen the film only once and I agree. I expect a second viewing would clear some things up, and it's pretty typical of Hou to tell a story this way.

Agree with op. Pretty. Enjoyed watching it. I *think* I followed the main plot line, but many parts were incomprehensible to me. And they may have been important parts. Maybe I didn't follow the main plot line? Shrug.
shareyep, can't say that i understood it all myself . i had to look at the trivia section to understand what i had missed, though i understood pieces of what was going on.
shareAs a technical exercise in showing stunning photography, costume and production design interspersed with set pieces then it was a success but with no narrative in a story telling narrative you have to question, why?!
