Well the main inspiration behind Banished was the story of the 1st hangman of NSW.
James Freeman really was the first hangman and SPOILERS Thomas Barrett the first man hanged.
I can see how some might find it redundant to have 3 hanging climaxes but I thought the one with James was a great twist. And that finale was quite epic.
Really? If that was the case, then Banished was the wrong title for it. I watched the entire series from Canada on the UK channel it was on through Film On. I love period dramas because I'm really into history and that's why I chose to watch it, but I thought this was only about the colonization of Australia as a penal colony. So I sat through this week after week, and when it came to the finale, I thought it was absolutely horrible!
I sat here thinking, you mean to tell me that I got invested in seven hours and all these characters for THIS?!
If you want to tell the story of the first hangman and the first man to be hanged in New South Wales, Australia, that's what documentaries are for!
This was the worst and most anti-climactic series I have ever watched in my entire life and I sincerely regret watching it. And now it's coming to Canada after all and being shown on CBC of all channels! Well, I won't be watching it a second time.
Or will this chick be banged?
