The Turning Point

Where Claire regressed back to Bryan was in Ep. 5 after Daphne made her doubt potential with the guy she met in the strip club. She felt good doing the photo shoot before that and for a hot second she actually seemed happier, then right after Daphne told her management frowned on relationships outside the club she starts crying and calling Bryan.

It's when Daphne told her she was invited as an escort.

When Claire kissed Bryan everything we thought we knew about the characters just flipped. It was crazy! I still can't really understand if Bryan had originally abused her and she went back to him because she felt she had noone else and still loved him as a brother, or if the whole thing was consensual from the very start. It's very confusing. She seemed genuinely scared of him in the beginning but now it's hard to know if she was scared of him specifically or of never being able to escape her life back home.

The writers did a great job keeping the whole thing very ambiguous.

The padlock on the door shown early in the show before she left tells to me how she wanted to keep her brother out.

And she was the younger of the two, and i am sure the abusive father caused both of them to become very close emotionally, and without a mother their to help her, all she had was her older brother. So i felt her brother brought his vulnerable younger into the sexual part of their need while together.

Also, after he tried to come to her and stay with her in NY, she is so vulnerable, she goes back to him for comfort. But when she screams about the baby and how she hated it..i also felt that their first sexual encounters were of his needs, and she resented the baby for what he brought her into at such a young age.

I like to think that in the continuation, the guy in the club happens to walk by Lincoln Center and sees the photo of Claire for the ballet. He goes to the ballet and then backstage to see her and they date and get married because he genuinely cared for her and didn't see her as an escort at all.
