W0w, Great Film

I streamed this not expecting much as a legal-thriller film addict. I was sooo wrong. This movie is brilliant. Nearly every character is repulsive, even the most virtuous among them: meaning, every character is totally believable.

I don't think I've ever seen a film where the legal profession was *less* glamorized. Keanu Reeves is inscrutable; Renee Zellweger is--yep, she's inscrutable too. Gugu Mbatha-Raw knows how to walk a narrative tightrope with a character filled with stereotypes. Gabriel Basso is riveting, and not just because of the trait his character has for three-quarters of the film.

Totally worth watching. Last time I saw a courtroom drama so believable, it was a 22-episode series from twenty years ago ("Murder One").

Agreed!

Especially perennial nice guy Jim Belushi. After seeing the flashback scenes, we (the audience) were surely all going "Good riddance!"

Some of the flashbacks may have been misconstrued to make him look bad. The wife wasn't an angel herself. She wanted to appear the victim.
