Just curious is there a breakdown or budget for how much these shows cost? With Robert Deniro and Streep getting $1Million an ep for Netflix shows, I wonder how much these shows cost and what's the payoff? Mozart seems to have a huge cast.
shareTrue but none of the cast members are really big names, though they are getting bigger. The guy who plays Thomas is the biggest name on the show that I'm aware of.
shareBernadette Peters is as big a star as Malcom McDowell. But Gael García Bernal (Rodrigo) is the biggest star - he's won many, many awards for his acting.
Then there are also a lot of big names that drop in for a group of episodes such as Dermot Mulroney, Monica Belluci, Joshua Bell, etc.
No way of knowing but episodes are clearly high-budget. There are union scales for the actors, but many more expenses. In the millions per episode.
shareThey save a bit on production. It's never cheap to shoot any show, but they aren't exactly aping the cinematography of an HBO drama. Of course, not every show goes to Venice, either.
Also, Netflix and Amazon don't have the most generous contracts for guest stars and recurring players. Bernal, McDowell and Peters are being compensated well I'm sure, but the cast costs are probably not out of control.
