superhero saturation

Are we getting close to the saturation point. I like super hero movies but it feels like were getting like 7 to 12 a year now. I just remember superman vs batman a wonderwoman another wonderwoman in the works already. I think justice league out later this year a thor movie. Are we also gonna get another avengers film. I must be confused I mistook the last Captain america civil war film as an avengers movie. There was yet another spider man reboot that just happened too. Can you tell I stopped paying attention to the schedules. I wonder how many of you guys are getting fatigued too. Enough already consolidate and concentrate your story telling development on just a few movies a year. I also see a Black panther movie poster at the cinima what ever thats about. :/

I wouldn't mind another dead pool movie. I could use a break from the PG-13 fluff right about now.

Deadpool was a pretty standard superhero movie aside from the R-rated jokes and gore. I'm not sure why you're so bored with the superhero genre, but like that one so much.

Anyway, people were talking about superhero fatigue all the way back in 2012 when the original Avengers movie dropped. They're still making money so far.

Because dead pool was differen't from the rest.

And I didn't say there was superhero fatigue back in 2012 but I'm saying it now since were getting like 8 movies a year now.

How was Deadpool different in your opinion?

As for 2012, I know you didn't say that. I said people were saying it. Essentially, people think everyone will get tired of superhero movies and it doesn't seem to be happening yet.

Cause he's an accidental hero that does unheric things and is just being himself like the rest of us. He just happens to have badass powers.

Also I don't want superhero films to saturate but I fear if they bombard us with too many expensive films they won 't be able to recover the money back as well and then poof the buble bursts and then were stuck in a superhero drought or just get several lower budget movies instead until some studio tries to take a chance again. I think movies are already too expensive as it is and we get weird plot points that involve apeasing the chinese markets with super hero films. Hopefully we won't see too much of that like we do other certain high budget franchises.

Other than the original Burton Batman from 1989, Deadpool is the only superhero movie that I’ve truly enjoyed. Is it different from all the other nonsense? No, not really. He still wears a stupid costume and fights bad guys and hops around like an imbecile hopped up on coke. But is it DIFFERENT? Obviously it is. It’s the same as saying that Spy Kids and Skyfall are the same. I mean, yeah...I guess they are...kinda. But one is for kids and one is for adults, and thus adults are obviously going to enjoy the one featuring James Bond eatin’ butts and fuckin’ faces.

Well Marvel will have put out 3 this year (Guardians Volume 2, Spider Man and Thor) and DC will have put out 2 (Wonder Woman and Justice League) and there was not an X-Men or Deadpool film this year so I do not know where you are getting this 7-12 number.

I think you are getting overwhelmed by the coverage and not the actual product but even if the amount of product is too much it is not close at all the 7-12 a year you think it is

I said it feels like 7 - 12. This year has 6 scheduled so far.
I'm not counting the Lego movies.

Its the way things work, movie making is primarily about money above all else. Superhero films, even bad ones make money. A lot of people did not like BvS or Suicide Squad, and they didn't make a massive profit, compared to expectations, but in the end they did profit and they did have huge box offices indicating a large audience. Then a better film with a more reasonable but still high budget, Wonder Woman, brought in the money for DC.

At first it seemed like the new Spider Man was showing this fatigue, but even with this third reboot in a very short time it had solid legs and finished with a strong WW BO. Hell we are getting a sequel to Ant Man, if there was a film from Marvel I thought would be DOA it was that one.

Another example of the fatigue still not setting in is Logan, this was the third film in a series of films that were for the most part disappointing, even if it was good could it reasonably expect to do that well, especially with an R rating limiting its audience? Well it came out and out performed the first two and many people loved it.

In the end it will take a significant bomb or two from probably Marvel because they are the leader in this to start to break the continued flood of superhero films.

I personally am not going to go into superhero fatigue any time soon. I have an extremely stressful job, one that offers all sorts of free drama, and right now the region where I live is burning to the ground. Bring on the escapism!!!

As for mass markets, IMHO the saturation point might come with the "Avengers Infinity War" films, which are massively expensive and have a topheavy cast. It's very difficult to make a good movie with a dozen stars vying for our attention and the good lines, that might be the film where millions of people might decide they've had it with a genre that's becoming self-referential and no fun.

And yes, Marvel will the ones to make or break the genre, as the recent DC output as been almost uniformly awful.

^ All of this ^

The problem with this complaint is that people had this complaint 10 years ago. lol

I'm not complaining. Just getting worried that the number of movies is diminishing the quality of the films. We are already starting to see movies fail so I hopt the knee jerk reaction isn't to cut budgets and shrink down to 2 movies a year. :9 I like super hero movies but this year I've actually had a hard time keeping up.

A bit of a long one...

Why do people keep asking for more of these and why should u expect to see more in the foreseeable future? Because superheroes basically kick ass. There was a time when these types of characters mainly appealed to “nerds,” and past attempts at making movies targeted at groups like this proved to be woefully unsuccessful. Here’s the thing, superheroes have always been the greatest fictional characters. They are powerful, unbelievably cool, otherworldly, and depending on the comics, it is easy to relate to some of them. When Burton’s Batman films came out, people took notice because they were more than just superhero movies. But, it took a while for the genre to be taken seriously by critics and general audiences. In comes the 21st century and “simply fun” superhero movies proved they could be technically impressive, be full of depth, and feature well-written and universally appealing characters (X-Men started it I would say). The game changed and it’s unsurprising this genre has become the biggest thing in the world. I think one of the most appealing aspects about these movies, is they are not just “superhero movies”... but movies ABOUT superheroes. They tend to be as character driven as they are action driven. So people that see these movies as “mindless” and “shitty”, they couldn’t be more wrong.

Anyway, apart from these big screen adaptations focusing on legitimately great characters with excellent stories, they pretty much deliver all the big thrills almost anyone could want from a cinematic experience. What’s more, the majority of them (mainly those based on Marvel comics, let’s be fair) are genuinely made with intelligence and sensitivity, and with all the advanced made in special effects, today these movies look proper and provide perfect escapism. Speaking of which, a lot of people sure need escapism right now; with the nasty political climate and troubling times overall, the demand for movies that essentially bring joy, excitement, and dare I say hope to people, is stronger than ever. (Call it corny but there’s truth to that.) PG-13 also being the common rating hasn’t been detrimental in terms of quality. I love the opportunities Deadpool opened up, however gritty and violent superhero movies shouldn’t completely take over just yet. Unless a certain comic movie calls for a hard R rating, then making a quality movie is what counts.

With all that said, assuming the hugely anticipated Avengers Infinity War disappoints, I bet the popularity of these movies won’t be diminishing any time soon. Yes, they continue to reign supreme because of profit (people feel like these “cash grabs” have been worth their money, good for them). But when Marvel (sometimes DC) puts out 3-4 of them a year, the fact is they make good movies, all unique in their own ways, and they are part of an expanding universe that keeps enticing people. The amount they put out may be exhausting to you, but by no means does Marvel show any signs of going downhill. So haters, I’m afraid you’ll keep whining about how subpar these “kids” movies are for years to come. Sad. I’ll be frank, I was big into the movies that started the age of superheroes (Spider-Man/X-Men/Batman Begins), and yet right before the new era of superhero cinema arrived, I had lost interest. But fortunately I grew out of my “I only watch real cinema” phase and decided to see what all the fuzz was about. And you know what? I have been pleased big time ever since. 😀 In closing, I’m ready for the third Thor and the upcoming great comic films!
