This sounds like literally the most boring movie ever made

Right up there with Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

just saw this and let's just say it's not the most exciting movie ever made

so many movies, so little time

Thoughts on the script? Performances/cast? Rating?

reply

Exactly. Another movie that felt like watching paint dry. Turned it off after 30 minutes.

reply

What about it made you?

reply

I'll try to answer. I sat through about an hour before I turned it off.

The acting seemed fine, though some of the lines from the young brother Ulysses seemed pretty forced, like a child that young wouldn't ask those types of questions or say those types of things, but it was cute so who cares.

The story on it's face seemed interesting, a young man learning about life through a messenger job in the middle of the war.

But there just wasn't any substance to it. There were lots of little sub-stories that started and ended that weren't that interesting. A little fight in a bar that just ends. Gotta hurry and run and get the old man a coffee because he's too drunk to get an important telegraph, that didn't end up being important.

I stuck around for an hour hoping there was something that would catch me and interest me, but nothing ever happened.

Fair enough. There are a lot of young performers in it. What did you think about their performances? Aside from the writing, it sounds like.

reply

I thought the main character's (Alex Neustaedter) performance was quite good and convincing. He seems like he'll do well in more projects.

As I mentioned the little kid seemed to have some forced dialogue. But I didn't really expect much from someone that young. I enjoyed his performance.

Most all of the actors did very well. I felt like they were actually part of the story, and not people acting the part. As always, Sam Shepard was good, and the other one I thought really stood out was Hamish Linklater, the messenger service boss.

The only one I really thought wasn't that good was Meg Ryan, but I really liked her in other movies, so I'm not sure what happened here.
