Q: What is the main thing you dislike about this show?

I don't dislike anything, but I am curious to hear other people think.

Blaine, cant stand him, cant see how he can fit in long term, and he killed Lowell who I adored

reply

Didn't Lowell try to kill Blaine, though? I mean, Blaine's not a good guy by any stretch of he imagination but, in this case, people blast him as if it was cold blooded murder when it was actually self defence.

Blast him for killing the Homleless Teens sure, but nt for defending himself.

reply

Given that Blaine turned him into a Zombie cos he wanted a friend
And Lowell was trying to save kids being killed by Blaine, I cant accept defence of Blaine, he is not a nice guy at all and now they want to make him a good guy

reply

You miss the point. It doesn't matter how awful a person he is, in this instance he acted in Self Defence.

It's really that simple.

reply

I get your point, just blaine is horrid, plus he killed my fav character from season 1

I also cant see how they can redeem him

reply

It appears they are trying to do so by letting the old Blaine die with his memories. If there's nothing in his head then he's a new man whether he pays for his past deeds or not.

reply

he is not a nice guy at all

Nice guys (in fiction) can be pretty boring, case in point - Major. I'd rather see Blaine on my TV screen than Major, who is just sleep-inducing. Obviously opinions differ, but I struggle to understand people disliking Blaine. He has more personality and character depth than anyone on the show except Ravi and Liv.
Liking Blaine is not a defense of him either, I doubt I'm the only one who doesn't want him redeemed into a 'good guy', where's the fun in that?

reply

Major was rather boring until the past few brains like the feel good and hit man brains. I much prefer him as a zombie.

reply

i think that Blaine lost his Mind... and that he killed Lowell -_-

I agree Im from nz and we only seen part of season 1 here (up to the episode just after blaine killed lowell) and was gutted that Lowell was killed off just when it was getting good !!

Im finding major a lil annoying now -- and its only season 1 first he wanted to move on from Liv now he wants to almost get back with her (esp when said BF is now out of the way)
wth

The hiatuses are my only problem. It's hard to follow a show when it takes a month off, then one new episode, then two weeks with no new episodes. A lot of people complain about the procedural aspect of the show, but I think it'd get boring if they took out the crime-solving and only focused on other stuff. I like having both the overall plot and the murders to deal with. Especially when the murders tie in to the overall plot.

reply

Ah, yes, if there's anything I dislike about it then it's the annoying hiatuses.

reply

yep, hiatuses this end too. felt really disrespectful to the show tbh, so many punctuations, nearly didn't allow it to get going or develop momentum for the viewer. guess i can bingewatch them another time tho now it's done...

also what a finale!! superb, 'kin well impressed!

reply

My quibble with this show is my quibble with any CW or American broadcast TV show - self censorship. Up the gore and foul language and nudity, people!!!

When I'm good, I'm GOOD. When I'm bad, I'm BETTER.

reply

Major. Which I know is awful since he's a main character, Liv's main love interest, and very likely Liv/Major is endgame.

reply

[deleted]

I imagine that was probably in the minds of the creators when they started the show, but I'm hopeful that they can adapt given that the chemistry between Liv/Major is the weakest in the show. They can't be blind to it (or at least that's what I tell myself), and it seems like the sort of show that can evolve beyond the initial plan. While I don't like the idea of shows pandering to fans and changing things based on vocal groups on Twitter etc, I don't think it is a completely outlandish idea that Liv and Major may not be suited for each other.

Fingers crossed.

reply

I'm hoping for the same, as well. Rob Thomas made changes to Veronica Mars for very similar reasons. Duncan/Veronica were supposed to be endgame and Veronica/Logan were never supposed to happen. Thomas saw the potential and chemistry between Veronica/Logan and went with it, those two become the "endgame" couple.

So... maybe he'll do the same with iZombie?

reply

IDK. I hated Duncan in VM and was totally into Logan with Veronica.

In this show however I don't hate Major at all. I think he's pretty great actually. Also I don't think there is a comparable Logan in iZombie. I hated that Lowell guy. Was super happy when he bit it. I like Blaine but his chemistry with Liv is more frenemy rather than in any way romantic. I'm not into them as a couple.

Logan had serious charisma. Maybe they need to get Jason Dohring on the show when they introduce this new direction in Season 3. I would squee. >.<

Happy birthday to the ground!

I have almost no complaints. I am wondering where Liv's family went in s2. I thought that would be addressed.

I also miss the more intricate and heartbreaking murderers and victims from s1.

reply

They're ignoring ever since she refused to give blood to save her brother, and she's avoiding them so she doesn't feel the need to explain why she wouldn't.

reply

Yeah, I get that they're ignoring her and that she's trying not to cause confrontation, but it seems like the writers forgot when they were writing and then on set someone realized "Hey, none of her family is here this season, let's add in a scene just to remind they audience that they exist". Felt pretty lazy to me. I wish they had more where they at least acknowledged the family, rather than her using them as a lie in that one episode and the one scene in episode one.

Those seven years of MacGyver finally payed off

reply

They said they just ran out of time to cover her family with everything they needed to do in season 2 so will come back to it they said

reply

I think they should just cut it out entirely and have it be her dealing with it instead of them forgiving her

I like the character of Liv but I think the actress is kind of mediocre. Maybe it's because she's struggling with doing the accent while also emoting, but sometimes I feel like she over-enunciates her words like she's in a school play and over-exaggerates her emotions (the comedic moments, not the drama). It's like she's self-conscious and always in her head instead of just fully inhabiting the character. Like she chose getting the accent right over the total performance. I don't hate her, but she's definitely my least favorite character on the show bc of it.

I saw her on Once Upon a Time as Tinkerbell (using her real Aussie accent) and she was fantastic, so it's not her skill, I think it HAS to be the American accent slowing her down.

I'm sure Rob and Diane initially wrote the scripts with Kristen Bell in mind to play Liv, and I can't help but think Kristen would be 1000% better at the role. I love all of the other actors in their roles.

reply

^ she's not Aussie she's Kiwi though. And I think she does an amazing job as Liv, she's clearly the best actor on the show.

reply

I didn't know she was a Kiwi - my bad. And I don't think she's a bad actress, I just don't love her in this. I liked her more in Masters of Sex (where I didn't notice her struggling with an accent as much) and OUAT.

I like the actors who play Blaine and Ravi the best, Babbineau is also pretty great at playing the straight man. It's okay that we disagree, people have different tastes. I figured most people would love her in this, but I keep wanting her to be Kristen Bell.

reply

Wow really, you think that?

I'm amazed at every episode of what a tough job it must be for an actor to play a character who's playing other characters... And Rose really does embody that perfectly. She's so versatile

reply

Like I said, I don't think she's a bad actress, but for some reason I can always see the wheels turning when she's playing Liv. I know it's a graphic novel, but she seems noticeably campier than the other actors, if that makes sense?

reply

Campier than Ravi? Campier than Blaine when he's being sarky? I'm not arguing, just saying there's a lot of camp going round.

reply

I LOVE Liv but I can definitely see where you're coming from.

reply

Completely agree. I find her increasingly irritating, to be honest.

Also, they really need to sort out her wig!!

reply

Blaine, I have no idea why they're keeping him around. He really serves no purpose as a main character and he's insufferable. He was good in season 1 but season 2 proved that he really needs to be killed off.

And Major, another character they don't know what to do with and keep giving him plot after plot one after the other that feel so forced.

Season 3 needs a big cast overhaul and it needs to just be a team up with: Liv (with the brain eating), Ravi (his medical knowledge) Babineaux (the cop) and Peyton (the legal perspective) they'd be a perfect team for the cases if they utilised their skills more and stopped attention on Major and Blaine.

I would LOVE this. Although, Blaine still does serve his purposes given the fact that he feeds Seattle's zombie population. I don't think he needs to disappear altogether, but he doesn't need to be in every episode either.

The show needs to drop Major like a hot potato. Once he releases the zombies from his freezer, I'm hoping he'll get sick of waiting for a cure and either commit suicide or have someone kill him because he doesn't want to live as a zombie.

reply

The shrimp/jelly brains? I dunno, it's hard to dislike anything about it.

reply

Nothing, well maybe Peyton needs more screen time. I did hate Drake ever since The Secret Life ... but he's gone.
