All the spoilers below.

I thought it'd happen last season, when they were trying to push out Sterling. Then Elizabeth would've been left on her own to go up against the guy.

The last few episodes though, have been building up to it. The actor that plays Russell has been amping up the manic, and it's been awesome. This latest episode he was just ridiculously frazzled. I do hope they don't kill him off though. After Elizabeth, he's probably the biggest (best) part of 'Madam Secretary' -- moreso even, than Henry.

There'd be a gigantic Russell shape hole to fill if he was killed off, and the show would be worse off for it.

I agree with you. The show would not be as good without Russell.

In the beginning his character was despicable, almost mean to Elizabeth. But lately I've grown to really like him. He and Bess work well together and I would sure hate for her to have to do it alone.

I sure hope too, that they don't kill him off- I also agree that it wasn't exactly a shock to see it happen. It had been building for a few episodes. I think I was more shocked that he had continued at the same pace for as long as he did. I seem to remember a scene (can't remember exactly when it occurred) between Russell and his wife where she was concerned about his health, and we have seen a couple of times Russell on his treadmill. This I felt sure was a pre curser moment for a Russell collapse- just not as much time in between!
I find myself enjoying his character more and more since the beginning, and quite often his blunt and sometimes witty humour really makes me laugh, and it will be a shame if this was the end of Russell Jackson.
