Henry's family

How are those two people related to Henry? Was that his brother? So far we have usually only seen Elizabeth's brother and his family. Why does that girl with the red hair (is she Henry's neice?) want to join the army and be a nurse and have to care for injured people from the war. Also how could the dad not have gotten another job since being fired from his other one last June? Like What?

Yes, that was his brother and niece. Not the first time we have seen his family. The niece wants to be nurse because that is why she wants to do. Plenty of people searching long and hard for jobs can go a good long time before finding a job.

Correct. We met Henry's brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews in the episode where they went to Pittsburgh for the funeral of Henry's father. In episodes earlier than that, we saw Henry's father, too.

In case someone here didn't know, niece Sarah was played by Tim Daly's daughter.

I'll admit it: I didn't know. Thanks for the info.

Well, thank God for caring people such as Henry's niece (Henry/Tim Daly's real life daughter - thanks for the info VegasNanny08) who are willing to care for injured people, from the war and elsewhere. Besides, if you don't have the burning desire to become a doctor, but you're interested in medicine, there's always openings for nurses. Are there any job choices that seem more rational to you? People are people, but we all do have our own desires, likes and dislikes so it's nice that we have people who want to be dentists, accountants, waitresses, lawyers and soldiers/sailors. I don't usually question someone's choice of occupation unless they have some attribute that will genuinely make that job very difficult for them.

When the niece was out running with Henry, she confided in him that her father had been having emotional problems since the death of their father, Henry's and his brother's father. He was fired from his job because he showed up drunk and since then has just hung around the house not showing interest in anything which could very well mean that he's depressed and needs treatment for the depression because it's gone on for so long. Henry's brother tends to believe that his daughter dropped out of college and joined the Army because of a break-up with her boyfriend, but given the information about her father, I'd guess that was also an influence. She asked if it wasn't her right to get away from her father and pursue a life of her own so I'm guessing that she simply doesn't know how to help him or what to do for him and being at home watching him has got to be somewhat depressing for her. Besides, she may be concerned about available money to continue college and came up with another solution.

Sadly, when a person is very depressed, they might not recognize that their making poor decisions. It can be difficult just to get out of bed because there is no energy left and the person may feel that they are doing all they can just to get themselves morning coffee and sit in the living room. It does not help for others to tell them they are depressed and need help, leave that to those who are capable of making a valid diagnosis, but do kindly find a way to get them to see a medical doctor and let the doctor take it from there.
