JFK

JFK was NOT popular when he was assassinated: http://jfk14thday.com/jfk-presidential-approval-ratings/

Why would they just make that assumption? Do they just not care about being correct? This type of sloppiness is probably a big part of why the show has been canceled.

puh-lease

JFK has been Martyred in the eyes of modern history... Save for Marilyn Monroe affair Jokes no one is allowed to speak ill of JFK...

and in case you're confused, the show had completed Production of this episode well ahead of cancelation.

reply

Yes, I implied that this particular moment showed sloppiness that permeated the entire season, thus potentially leading to its cancellation. Obviously it had to have been completed before it was canceled for me to make that assertion.

Also, I said nothing about his popularity AFTER assassination, which is what I think you're referring to. I'm talking about his popularity WHEN assassinated, for which I provided a link.

reply

I was referring to his popularity at the time he died and not after. 58% was still considered more than enough to win an election (as it is today). As I inferred earlier, though, the rapid drop in his popularity did not bode well for him.

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

It's enough to win an election, but I don't think it's enough to be considered "popular." Plenty of unpopular leaders have won elections because people vote for the least bad candidate. That's who I vote for. I think politicians are almost all bad people.

reply

I understand what you're saying. How about this: JFK still had enough support to easily have won an election in November 1963 (if there had been one, of course), but he didn't have the universal appeal or love from both sides of the political aisle that he had earlier on.

As for politicians, I think they are the same people as us. If anything is bad, it's politics itself, IMO.

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

Yes, I would agree with that statement. That's why it bothered me that they said he was popular WHEN he was killed. Regarding politicians, I think politics is bad and only people who aren't great to begin with can handle all the bull involved. They have to have ridiculously thick skin, and that's not a typical trait.

reply

The same thing happens with a lot of assassinated politicians. It happened with the prime minister here in Serbia in 2003. He was leading the country to ruin, working with criminals, yet was martyred after he'd died.

Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better.

reply

His final approval rating was 58%, so he was still popular. However, his number were in decline, so he had a reason to be concerned that close to 1964.

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

I don't consider 58% to be popular, especially since he had VERY high approval ratings earlier in his presidency.
