The other John Case/Agent X (spoilers for most recent ep)

So the other "John Case"/Agt. X turns out to be his father and he never finds out??? (I'm hoping/assuming they will revisit this plot in the future.)

And was that Fred Dryer of "Hunter" fame playing him?

They will. I look forward to their reunion.

Yes, it's Hunter.

Hmmm I can see younger John Case not knowing it's his dad, since it's presumably been years since he's seen his dad (plus I assume he thinks his dad is dead). But surely the dad has kept track of his son and knows what he looks like at least?

reply

It's silly for the father not to recognize his own son.

That's just my two cents.

His missions' antagonists are sometimes powerful and resourceful. And they don't normally die at mission's end. If they come after him not to hurt him physically, but to find his weakness(es), then another hired agent just as adept could do so and his status as Agent X would be compromised.

Well, they haven't said whether or not the father recognized the son. He did not acknowledge his identity, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know. However, we don't know what happened to the elder "John Case" after he left his family. Maybe he was captured/presumed dead and had no contact with them later. Maybe he was injured and lost his memory. No way of knowing yet. But I'm interested to see where they go with this plot.

There is only 1 Agent X in th entire US and a father and son both happen to get the job? Can't be coincidence.

It seems natural for the following to happen:

The son wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and serve his country,

there may be a subconscious desire to die for his country like his dad did and meet up with him in the afterlife,

and the genetic makeup predisposed the two to thrive under extreme-pressured situations, making the two stand out and be noticed by a particular secret agency who could exploit these traits.

Well the person who chooses Agent X (is it Malcolm?) undoubtedly knows the truth about the father and son. Perhaps the younger agent was chosen because he shares some qualities with his father that made both of them a good choice for the job.

Possibly, but the older Agent X did say his handler was not Malcom and he did not know him. So if that where true, Malcoms predecessor could have known about the son and made a recommendation to Malcom to consider him as the next agent knowing the sons relation to his agent. So it could be the only one who knows its father and son could be Malcoms predecessor.
