I don't care how young and naive Peter was, he knows damn well the cultural impact of the Star Wars movies. If there was ONE thing from this movie I'd change, it's that line. It was a stupid setup to a joke about how young he is, but it doesn't even make sense. I don't care how young you are, you know that people are aware of Star Wars.

Ya got me there. The Beastie Boys aren't on the level of Star Wars, but yes you do have a point.
shareI get what you're saying, but the beastie boys have not remained a mainstream cultural icon since their inception. There have been star wars toys on the shelves, almost since the 70s. There have been enormously successful sequels spanning the decades, and one of the wealthiest entertainment companies in the world bought the property and incorporated it into their theme parks. Big difference between a once popular band, and Star Wars. Add to that, Peter himself has the Lego Death Star, so his comment does seem really forced.

shareI think people need to realise that Star Wars original trilogy is 35 - 40 years old. Many people today were not even born then, and a surprising number of people have still not seen any of those movies.
I don't understand why we expect everyone to be aware of these movies, its not like actual history which is important and people should learn it. These are just movies.

shareMy youngest son knows the Star Wars universe better than I do. He's watched all the Clone Wars animated series and played the video games. He would never refer to ESB as "that really old movie."
The irony is that the MCU is based on "those really old comic books."
Then they proceed to reuse that joke in Infinity War SMH
