Trilogies that got better with each movie

I can't think of one besides the Captain America trilogy, since Civil War was the best and First Avenger, although a blast, was the weakest in the trilogy. Other than that, I can't think of any movie trilogy where each installment was better than the previous one.

Most great trilogies have a stellar first installment, followed by an even better second installment, concluded with a third installment that's good but the weakest of the three. The Dark Knight, Star Wars, Spider-Man, X-Men and Godfather trilogies all followed this trend.

The Toy Story trilogy had 3 equally good movies with maybe a slightly superior third movie. LOTR was 3>1>2. Iron Man was 1>3>2. Matrix was 1>2>3. However no trilogy comes to mind besides Captain America that was 3>2>1.

If John Wick: Chapter 2 is any indication, it should be a stellar trilogy.

If your theater is a space safe from ideas and opinions, you're doing theater wrong.

While that trilogy hasn't concluded yet, it'll be hard for the third installment to beat the first two, but we'll see.

I don't consider The Captain America movies a trilogy.

Do you think they can be watched 1, 2 then 3 coherently?

To me they are 3 isolated stories featuring the same central character within a wider story. Lets be fair, The Avengers movies provided a luxury movie that most trilogies don't have.

We were talking about this the other day: it's almost impossible to understand Civil War without watching at least Age of Ultron (and probably Avengers) outside of the Cap films.

The Bourne Trilogy could be argued got better every time out.

Yes, this one did it.

Just... forget about the stepchild movie with Jeremy Renner and also the fourth installment. Those didn't exist anyway.

The Dollars Trilogy/Man with No Name trilogy. One could argue that For A Few Dollars More wasn't as good as A Fistful of Dollars, but evidently many do consider it to be the superior film. Then there is the universally praised third film... The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

As for any other, it's hard to think of one where the final film surpassed the previous two. Although John Wick might just be a contender! If the third installment gets anywhere near the great reviews as the last, I personally feel we might have a perfect trilogy in our hands.

On a site note, I'm one of the few (?) people who holds the First Avenger in high regard. It's arguably more of a war film than a superhero film, however, that happens to be one of the several reasons the film is so unique to me. But yeah, The Winter Solider and Civil War took things to another level, and consequently an outstanding trilogy was made (the greatest in my book).

i agree - First Avenger was awesome. It actually took me a while to warm up to Winter Soldier (no pun intended) and I have...issues with Civil War.

this is a very hard question because its completely subjective...

for eample I dont even agree With The Captain America Trilogy , I think The Winter Soldier is the best in The Trilogy..but Civil War IMO is almost as Great
