Too tragic and twisted

I never read the books but the films are just too tragic. I can't take it. I had to stop watching it. Didn't anyone else feel like they just can't handle characters going through so much?

if you have not read the books, then of course the story is very twisted and maybe too much for some people to take. But I would think most people who have watched these movies have already read the books, so we're used to it. If the movies are already too much for you to bear, then it's probably a relief that you have not read the books, because the books are even more tragic and twisted in comparison, ALOT more twisted and insane...the movies are pretty toned down compared to the books.

Lol I was thinking it needed to be more tragic.... The movie is nowhere near the craziness of the books.

I don't mind tragedy or twists – in fact, I like them on film – but I found this film just plain tedious and manipulative. With the exception of Ellen Burstyn, I think most of the performances here are cringe-worthy. If this film were a bit more cheesy, it would qualify as camp instead of just being a big bore. 4/10 stars from me.
