Much more talented actresses and actors than Miranda Cosgrove have done nude scenes in R-rated movies. But nude scenes or not, R-rated movies are generally more interesting than lame, PG-13 teen-oriented movies like this one.
I don't mind if actresses simply don't WANT to do gratuitous nude scenes, but I do get sick of all the NON-nude shower scenes and sex scenes in movies today. If the sex scenes and shower scenes are really "necessary to the plot", then the nudity is not "gratuitous" either by definition.
The one non-nude shower in this movie doesn't really hurt anything, but that is always the sign of a bad movie. The message is, "we're going to try to distract you from this lame movie by showing an attractive female in the shower, but we're too cheap and too PG-13 to actually SHOW a female in the shower."
