Canada funny, not American funny.

I will see all 12 episodes since I like the cast. but I will be shocked if it gets another season.

I didn't know that there was such a racial bias in sitcoms.

"Racial"????????????

Sorry, my fault, forgot to put the 'sarcastic' emoticon after my comment.!!

I don't need nor use those things. The word is a strange choice in this context.

I was of course referring to the topic heading "Canada funny, not American funny" being a country (and hence race) difference.

Your use of "racial" is weird.

But comedy is heavily cultural. There's a racial aspect to comedy, too. But I was just refering to the fact that Canadians probably find this much funnier than Americans.

Working The Engels is "cute funny". The Big Bang Theory may be twice as popular per capita in Canada but that isn't the case for most American comedies. The Canadian show Package Deal tried to be "American funny" and it is insufferable. Many American comedies seem to have this sense of forcing the joke, like they are saying, "Can you feel it coming? Good. Laugh right now, this is funny! OK, now stop laughing", and i just find that so annoying. Of course there are Canadian comedies that can't shut up about their Canadianness and they are equally annoying. I'm thinking of you, Satisfaction, from last year.

ABC passed on 18 To Life because, despite using the same producer as Package Deal, the show tested as 'too foreign' for their American sample group. The sad thing is the show seemed equally 'too foreign' to this Canadian, despite the show being made and set in Montreal. It often came across as an annoying American show starring a lot of Canadians. Working The Engels has that nice balance of not pretending to be or pandering to American(s) while not continuously and gratuitously reminding viewers the show is Canadian.

Working The Engels looks like they took all the notes from the NBC executives and just ignored them. Or maybe they made an alternate edit for NBC, which could explain why the show was a March premiere in Canada and a July premiere in the USA.

This explains why the show is so bad. I just watched one episode (it might be the first episode) and I was trying to figure out why it was so horrible and boring, I remembered a lot of promotion for this show when it first came out, so was surprised at how unfunny it was. Lo and behold, it's Canadian. Most Canadian-produced shows are horrible and don't have great ratings (but the networks play them BC they are required to play a certain amount of Canadian content).

I barely got through the episode
