Liberty's Torch doesn't look like that at all... WTF?

Why on earth did they come up with that nonsensical Statue of Liberty's torch layout?

In the movie the round platform floor of the torch is elevated almost to the rim of the balustrade! You can see the small hatch-like door leading outside (which, with the floor at that level, wouldn't even open!). Almost directly before it is a thin bannister going all around the torch.

In reality, the floor is of course NOT elevated (why would it?) and the thin bannister is placed on top of the original leaf-like balustrade as an extra safety measure which was added sometime after 1886, probably because they realized how dangerous it was to stand up there with such a relatively low balustrade.

The movie's layout would result in essentially a fake, i.e. inaccessible torch since there would be no balustrade to lean against when looking down!

Of course this was apparently done to have the actor stand with his head just beside the torch flame construction - more dramatic, perhaps?

So why this fantasy nonsense? It would have been much cooler anyway if he was maybe balancing on the thin bannister all around the torch... Alas...
