Holy sh!t ! Robert Zemeckis biggest flop ever !!!!

And sad that his biggest flop is actually a very good movie. Don't understand why. His movies always made money, but this movie just didn't. Only 9 million ? My God. This is one of the biggest flops this year, not only in his career.

its just not a topic that people care for. The trailer in 3d looked really cool though, i will see it

I watched Martian in 4DX and I was happy. So I thought better to watch The Walk in IMAX. Yes the last 30 mins make the weak and predictable story. I think it will financially bomb. 3D and Imax can't save it, really 😯

I live in Melbourne, Australia. I anticipated this to be a massive hit and saw it on advance screenings a few weeks ago. To my surprise the cinema was empty. Week 2 it dropped to one session a day. Its now in week 3 and playing the morning sessions. I rang the local iMax as I wanted to see it a second time before the end of its run. They said it has done no business at all and that it will not get a 4th week. I asked why they think it has done so badly and the iMax staffmember suggested that the 911 stuff was too raw for Americans and the lack of any word of mouth carried over to Australia.

I also posted on my facebook page asking why it has been such a flop. One person seemed to think that it was because its only got one major sequence in it and that general audiences are not interested in single event films.

So I have a theory. The Walk was quite simply not bleak enough for general audiences. If Petit died in the end or if this was about a national disaster or a crazed killer, it would have made money. Being that it was a story of hope and dreams and was in many ways a love letter to New York, no one cared enough to see it.

Saw it recently on IMAX 3-D.

Unfortunately the topic is not spectacular enough for the 2010's audience although this movie was a positive mood-masterpiece in terrifix cinematography.

It should have made >100 Mio. $.

Thank you, Robert Zemeckis, for this gift of a film!

It will probably make it's money back on the international market, it's close to 39 million so far.
It hasn't done brilliantly in the USA but I wouldn't call it his biggest flop ever, I wanna hold your hand only made a million and a half I think and Used Cars was a flop too.

Yes, in terms of expectations it is one of Zemeckis's biggest flops. People expected way better results. Which is all unfortunate, because personally I like Zemeckis and I liked the movie a lot. But no, there's no way to sugarcoat it: it is a serious box office flop.

They need to cover not only the budget, but the marketing as well. The budget was $35-$40 million, and they spent around $20 million on advertising.

In terms of money, studios usually take only 30% from foreign markets and at this point the numbers for The Walk are bad. Really bad for a PG movie in 3D/IMAX, with a popular young actor and a popular director.

And unfortunately it's not gonna get any better. Hopefully the movie will be more successful on home video.

That is sad.

Zemeckis is very good, Levitt is very likable, the fx and story were great. But in the end the distributor should have changed the date and the marketing was more about the reviews than the actual film at times. Even in France, the movie bombed.

It flopped because JGL is not a leading man material. he's lacking on screen presence and look a bit childish.

With a different lead this movie for sure would had made more money.

It really is not that interesting.

Zemeckis really did drop the ball.

It's that man again!!
