Why didn't New York rebuild the towers?

One thing about the twin towers, I've long though about: why didn't they rebuild the towers as they were? Should they have rebuilt them? I remember soon after the attacks, my initial thought was that they are definitely going to rebuild them. And I remember several people were initially of the same mind. But later, the alternative view came to dominate: that the exact recreation of the towers would somehow be a bad taste. I'm not sure if that view is correct. Or perhaps there were some additional reasons (such as safety or economy) for erecting a different looking building.

Freedom tower is actually quite beautiful. It may just be a case of bad soul.

Nope, nostalgia

Because rebuilding the towers would be like erasing 9/11, and that would be terribly offensive to the victims' families. I remember all the discussion around the rebuilding of the towers after 9/11. Some people thought it was hallowed ground and nothing should be built there out of respect for the dead. But the public's opinion didn't matter. Manhattan lost over 15 million square feet of office space on 9/11. They had to rebuild. The land belonged to the Port Authority, so it was their call how to do it. They held a commission to determine the best way to move forward and take into account public opinion and the families of victims. I think what they built is a decent compromise. They were never going to make the public happy.

People also forgot that many people hated the twin towers when they were first built. They were called ugly filing cabinets.

I don't think rebuilding 2 towers that crumbled to dust in 10 seconds would have been an intelligent thing to do.
Apparently those towers should have been able to withstand 4 planes crashing into them, yet one each and an hour later here they go down like sand castles!
The look of them were very dated too. The new tower is way prettier.
Very good movie.

The towers were not exactly intended to be hit by four planes crashing into them... only a much smaller plane traveling at a slower speed assumed to be lost in the fog or something. The ones that crashed into the buildings were larger and going at about full capacity...

The collapse of the buildings was the result of the design itself anyway. They fell down more like Jenga towers disintegrating in my opinion.

They did rebuild Bldg 7 of the World Trade Center Complex. They did that very quickly - within a few years of the attacks because people kept asking how could a 600 foot high scraper collapse when it wasn't hit by a plane or much of anything. So the govt replaced 7 but the deception still fell apart , thanks to the internet. It's been 15 years now and everybody knows about Bldg 7 and the obvious fact that the attacks were an inside job.

Not obvious to everyone it seems. I personally won't be convinced by anyone that it wasn't (unless someone comes with undeniable facts that I couldn't ignore). Honestly, you can lose your mind by reading all the inconsistencies.

I want them built exactly like they were. In honor of those who were killed. They deserve that much. I love the new tower, but it can't replace the old ones. I'd also built more buildings with the old buildings design. But bigger and better.
