Early R.E.M. fans beware.
They throw the title to one of R.E.M.'s best songs out there, along with Jason Schwartzman who has a brand of humor that's been pretty well documented.
If you're expecting a funny, quirky movie that although is a little depressing here and there, but ultimately charms you the way his projects usually do, then stay away from this movie.
The whole soundtrack is Guided By voices here, Big Star there, they call it power pop for a reason. And then what do you get? The most undeveloped sad sack story. Even for a drunken mess, there's not much going on here outside of the loser being a loser. And why did they lure me in with that title? I haven't a clue. In fact, the tastes of the main character seem to have little to do with the over all feel of the soundtrack.
Why is any of this important? Because if you're looking for what this movie seems to be from the outset trying to promise, than forget it. It's not funny, it's not quirky or cool. It's a drag. There's nothing to see, it's devoid of insight.
