Too bad, I really enjoyed this.

Damn, I hoped we might get a second. At least it ended on a high!

reply

Why? I don't get it. So irritated. Forever was always one of the first things I watched every week. Such a good show.

reply

i tottaly agree with you. Go canceled something else we watched this. WHY????

reply

I was just going to start a thread about the cancellation, but you beat me to it...
but for those who can't open the link you posted, I'll post this:

ABC has cancelled “Forever,” “Cristela” and “Resurrection,” Variety has learned.

The network has renewed all other series on its current slate with the exception of “Last Man Standing,” which still awaits a decision.

ABC’s renewed dramas include:

“Castle”
“Grey’s Anatomy”
“How To Get Away With Murder”
“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD”
“Nashville”
“Once Upon a Time”
“Scandal”
“American Crime”
“Secrets and Lies”
“Marvel’s Agent Carter”

ABC renewed comedies include:

“Black-ish”
“Fresh Off the Boat”
“The Goldberg”
“The Middle”
“Modern Family”
“Galavant”
“The Bachelor” and “Dancing With the Stars” have also been renewed, along with “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “Shark Tank,” “Beyond the Tank” and “20/20.”

I swear, I don't know how some of those shows get renewed! 

Noooooooooooo!
Agent Carter is renewed, but not Forever....bah!

reply

Don't be a moron, not Agent carter killed this, but some a-hole in a high position at ABC. It was obvious from the hectic way they aired all the episodes that someone really wanted it to fail. Also the Marvel AoS spin-off will not be made, that is where AC goes in.

One more thing: Castle should be cancelled, it's already stale. But they go with another season of that *beep* Even the show runner is out. Stana Katic didn't sign yet. But they renew that.

"Relics of ancient times. Lonely cenotaphs. Standing along that melancholy tideland."

reply

I was not inferring a connection between Agent Carter being renewed and the fact that Forever was not. Rather I was lamenting that one I didnt care for lived and Forever died. By the way it's Powergirlsmom to you, not moron. 0 : )

reply

I know exactly what your post means. So sorry that FOREVER is gone. Love it...well written, well acted, lovable characters, great production.

reply

Thanks rod. There are a lot of us out here.

reply

Saying that Castle is stale may be your opinion, marousha, and you are entitled to whether or not you are tired of the show. However, you are simply wrong in stating that it is stale. The weekly plots are quite fresh, and all the characters have plenty of life and continuing development. I thought they might lose their path when they consummated the romance, but they even handled that difficult continuing plot element very well. Moonlighting couldn't survive consummating the romance, but Castle actually became stronger for it. They managed to work some interesting conflicts of interest into the story as a result. So far as I can see the only obstacle to Castle running for a few more seasons is keeping the cast signed. Fillion is already inked, but they do need to get Katic committed.

reply

Agent Carter sucks, and although I liked Castle for years it needs retired, and even Once Upon A Time is getting stale. Forever had potential for at least a couple more years, definitely not a smart move cancelling it.

reply

True, true and sadly true.

I watched one episode of Forever and was hooked. Between Forever and Selfie, ABC has canceled two of the best shows they've had in a long time. It's too bad that Henry, Jo, Abe, and Lucas won't be on our TVs this fall. Their completely unexpected (by me, anyway) renewal of Galavant doesn't make up for losing those two shows.

reply

i wish they canceled secrets& and lies such a stupid show,

reply

There are 10 seasons of mediocre crime investigation shows out there and finally a really good one comes along and it only gets ONE season?!

Watching the first 5-6 episodes I was looking forward to following this show for the next decade but I suppose I should have expected there would be no more.

To quote Nathan Fillion from the best TV show ever: "The good ones always get cancelled."

Bummer.

How Hawaii 5.0 got more than ONE EPISODE is beyond me but I guess people like their tired worn out clichés whereas a fresh new thing like Forever confuses them...

the best TV show ever

reply

The nonsense that is Bachelor but not Forever is renewed. That just doesn't make sense.

reply

I agree Iantzn. But I can give you a simple reason: the Almighty Dollar. Just think how much the Bachelor/Bachelorette garbage costs to film versus a show like Forever. I would guess that 1 or 2 episodes of a decent show like this costs the same as entire year of the garbage. So the cost is lower and profits higher.

reply

Even more to the point, I'm a Batman and DC comics fan, but I found Gotham to be unwatchable. Yet it is renewed and Forever isn't. I think Forever's problem was that it was much too mild in the season's first half, and it missed building an early following that would carry the ratings through the season. There is some talk that WB may try to shop it to another network. That only rarely succeeds, but I'll wait on final news about that before I completely write it off.

reply

To say Gotham is unwatchable is a bit strong and many of us will gladly watch its second season with relish. But losing Forever is a bitter pill to swallow, it will be sadly missed.

reply

this is so sad, i really don't understand how they can get high rates on those other shows and then not enough on forever???? what the hell... :(

reply

they should of kept this one but got rid of American Crimes and Secrets & Lies.. They took it off and put a show that did not last more than 3 episodes.

reply

oh no!

reply

The Mindy Project has been cancelled by Fox, but Hulu is going to pick it up for next season. Maybe there's still hope someone will pick up Forever.

reply

MAOS was renewed, but Forever axed!!!?? That pos was renewed??!!

Great news about Agent Carter though!

This has pissed me off.

I had sort've figured. A friend of mine went to Disney World 3weeks back, and she reported that she and her daughter couldn't find anything for FOREVER at the Studios park. She said they found CASTLE, GREY'S ANATOMY, and a bunch of others, but nothing at all for REVENGE or FOREVER, so we had predicted they were gonna get canceled. Neither of us watched REVENGE, but we are both big FOREVER fans.

Terrible numbers, so yeah, cancellation was inevitable.

I'm curious what happened with it, though. Acting was great, stories were great… but from the ratings I've seen, it never had good numbers. Like most never gave it a chance, or never even heard of it.

Why? Is the title enough to sink a show?

reply

I'm convinced this show is just too intelligent for most tv viewers. When shows like The Bachelor, Keeping up with the Kardashian' s and Teen Mom keep coming back season after season, a show like this has no chance. I am crushed - I love this show so much!

reply

I agree - it is a sign of how we are "dumbing down" the audience and the world in general. We need more shows that make us think and think about moral issues as well - such as in the finale of this "Would you have killed Adam?" Asking ourselves questions like this is one way we become better people.

Reality should be more "documentary" and less "unimportant people's lives"

reply

I think both of you are correct. Dumb shows stay and shows that make people think get cancelled. There have been many through the years that were very, very good, and if they got a second season, I was surprised.

I really, really looked forward to this show each week, and now nothing to watch.

I don't watch most of the dreck TV executives THINK people want to see. Fine, put out the reality clap trap, but leave a few intelligent shows for those of us that like to sit down and think when watching TV.

reply

You are so right about that. I can't stand The Bachelor and yet it keeps getting renewed. How is that even possible?! I'd rather watch something with character, than a guy who's a douche bag trying to act like a gentleman.

reply

This news has really ruined my day! The more I watched this show, the more I fell in love with it. And I'm sure it would have gotten even better in a second season.

It had so much going for it - wonderful characters (played by a wonderful cast), great story lines, great sets (love the antique shop), quirky, charming, funny, poignant (especially the relationship between Henry and Abe).

Ugh, so sad.

reply

When you said "had never heard if it, you had your answer. ABC never really promoted it and put it into a time slot where it was up against apparently very popular shows on other networks. But whenever people DID watch it, they loved it, so you'd think the answer would be to change the slot and promote it. Word of mouth was already starting to make a difference.

I think a major contributor to its low numbers was the fact that new episodes aired on Monday nights in Canada. I'm sure a lot of (American) people in that coveted 18-49 demographic downloaded it. I know that twice my DVR didn't record a new episode and I downloaded it, and the number of seeds on torrent sites (on Monday evening) was very high, about the same as other American shows being downloaded that aired on Monday night in the U.S.

Personally, I think there should be some kind of official/legal clause, when the rights to air the show are being purchased from the American network, that the show has to either be aired on the same night and time or at some point after it has aired in the States, not before. It makes no sense for another country to be allowed to freely air a series in advance of its country of origin, because once a show has aired a new episode, it is on the Internet, and this affects the numbers on the originating network who holds the shows fate in its hands based on those numbers.

reply

ABC did a mistake putting this show behind AOS. If people want to see a show about superheroes they don't want some unknown heroes. People wanted to see Thor, Captain America, Iron Man. Not some agency that has unknown heroes who are never going to appear on the big screen. ABC should have put Forever to go on Wednesday or Friday night since during the Fall and Winter there aren't that many good movies that come out on Friday. Forever was probably the first show I've ever seen on ABC and now since it wouldn't be coming back I don't any reason to turn to ABC. I really hope that it gets picked up by another channel even Netflix or Amazon. They made sure the show fail from the very beginning.

reply

I can not believe ABC canceled this wonderful show and renewed some of their TRASH!

Anyone know of a good address we can all write to ABC and complain?

If it were not for OUAT, I would quit watching ABC altogether.

reply

Complain to ABC but your best chance to actually save the show is appeal to NetFlix which is logging the number of requests for it.

reply

I tuned in every week to watch both Agents of Shield and Forever. I thought they complemented each other very well. I even stopped watching Person of Interest live (still watch it online) so I could watch Forever. However, I do have some hope that Forever will live on in a limited run or on another network or outlet.

reply

Also it should have been on at an earlier hour. Aside from gruesome (and unnecessary) autopsy close ups it was a very family friendly show yet it was broadcast late at night - typically the hour
for grittier shows - when kids are usually in bed. My sister loved watching it with her son but always a day late as he couldn't stay up to watch it when it was broadcast.
