Am I the only one who thinks BIRKIN BAGS ARE OVERRATED?

I'm a female. and honestly, this might not be that surprising coming from me because I am more of a vintage clothing gal and I like thrifting even though I dont have to.... but I never EVER understood the BIRKIN bag being so costly and more importantly so POPULAR. it looks generic and boring as hell!!! It looks like purses I see at Ross hanging on the clearance rack. and I cant stand when people wear bright "groovy" colors like green or orange ones, it gives me a old lady housewives vibes like they are trying to be cool and "vibrant" again.

Im going out on a limb to say SOME people just buy it so other people can see the birkin label and think they are ALL THAT ( even though I think the opposite of them) and then they feel good about themselves that they can afford a Birkin. thats the only reason I can think of, because to me they seem so BLAH.

I bought a rad vintage purse for $25 and its so damn unique and special and I hope to have it my whole life. but people pay $10,000 for a purse that is basic and everyone else has it.I DON'T GET IT!!!

I think Birkin bags are a joke. Even if I were a billionaire I'd never own one. I'm with you on the vintage thing!

Yeah, I don't get it either. It's a very plain, oversized tote. Okay, it's handmade, but does that workmanship really show? In my opinion, no. In fact, it has places where it's sewn that really ought to have metalwork instead, for sturdiness and durability.

There ARE some genuinely groovy hand-painted ones available - here's one I like a lot:

But that's what you have to do to make the basic original interesting. So if I wanted an oversized tote at all (which I don't - I'm 5'2", and people my size look ridiculous carrying these things that are bigger than we are), why wouldn't I just buy something from Coach instead?

Grandpa, go home and drink!

I'm a vintage and thrift store lover myself. To me, a purse is a purse. I have never felt comfortable wearing designer items, and I don't want my clothes to be covered in words and labels (i.e. "Juicy Couture" sprawled across my ass)

That Givenchy bag that Morgan wanted so badly, looked very plain to me. The color was nice, but it's a good thing she lives in Beverly Hills- most other places, carrying that thing would be like asking to get robbed.

Don't EVEN get me started on the fact that she feels Chanel towels are necessary. It's a TOWEL.

SO MUCH THIS!

The only reason people buy designer is to impress other people. I like what I like regardless of label.

Heck my last purse was a cheap name bag I got for $10 at JCP. Get compliments on it all the time. 

Birkins honestly don't appeal to me either. It's not that I can't afford one, they just look too much like stiff business suitcase to me. Way too structured.

If I was a multi-millionaire, I'll only get 1 to fill out a bag collection, but not 100 like some of these rich women have.

I much prefer slouchy bags. Bags from "indie" brands are generally more my thing. I wouldn't even go around carrying designer things with a giant logo on it. That to me, is tacky.

Originally, it was designed as a small suitcase for Jane Birkin, but apparently she did not like it either.

The most I'll spend on a purse would be $99. I refuse to spend more than $100 on a purse. The most I have spent is about $75. I like Coach purses but I get them at the outlets or on eBay. I'm hard on my purses and these hold up well.
Louis Vuitton purses are overpriced and there are a ton of knock offs out there.

Knock if off Napolean make yourself a dang quesadil-la!

Totally agree! Birkins look like Mommy's Sunday Purse, to me. lol. They cough up too much money for Birkins, just for status. Poor thangs, too insecure in themselves to have their OWN style!

yes the bags are quality, but nothing special about them except their price. So by pricing them out of the reach of 99% of the people, then the ones that can afford them feel that they have something special. When really they are just being conned out of their money by people that know how to market to them. Kind of like a status symbol like watches are for men. A citizen watch does as much or more than a rolex, but the pricing of the rolex gives an air of exclusivity to the buyer, which they are willing to pay the premium for.
