WTF was going on in this movie??

I watched it and paid attention to the details, not knowledgeable about Rosicrucian beliefs, but got the gist of it in the movie context that Radcliffe was coming back for a second round.

Radcliffes' wife was murdered, and something something, ghost whisperer said he loved her too much... then all of a sudden shes possessed the mother... um what and how... maybe the blood in the altar did it, I dunno, but if that was the purpose, why the hell would alec/rad have let the large hanging weight nearly crush her skull... seems kinda counterproductive...

The kids running in the field in the fog.... um ok... and wtf was the symbolism of the painting of them?? I read a lot of fantasy novels, and could only surmise that somebody had 'captured' them and pre destined them to be in the field.... to ZERO effect or purpose if it was one of the spirits... why drive them out into the field in the first place? they both returned quickly enough (yes they were driven VERY slowly through the field).

The boy seemed retarded, totally unaware that Alec was having some serious problems, but hey, why not run to him and then be surprised at his actions...

Maybe its just me, but FFS, would somebody PLEASE pick up a GD rock and hit somebody else with it already, surely they had a few laying around, the wife, daughter or son all could've very easily picked a rock up and brained the Alec.
(not specifically just this movie, but in almost ALL horror movies. I think it was Turistas that someone actually DID this and I honestly cheered for it)
