Show is unique but...

It has a very "Seinfeld feel" (show about nothing, stand-up comedian life in NY, even the music). All this means it's familiar, but very unique and modern... fkn love it. Go Jimmy. Go Jimmy!

Both great shows! I do think Jim does a better job incorporating more the real NYC than Jerry did. Both shows might be stored on the same shelf, but each unique from each other and far better than most.

Agreed. Seinfeld was a show about nothing. This is a show about a married comedian with a bunch of kids and a few friends. Most of Seinfeld took place in an apartment, a diner, Elaine's & George's workplaces, and a movie theater or restaurant here and there. In the most recent episode of this show Jim and Jeannie really went about-the-town.

I'm loving this show a lot.

It's a good show, but I'd hardly call it "unique."

You'd hardly call it unique because it's just like .....what? You thinking Seinfefd? Louie? Marin? or what? It's not 100% unique, but it's more different than most.

reply

I don't call it unique because it follows the standard sitcom formula. An overweight, middle-aged schlub with a good-looking wife and kids goes through the tribulations of daily life, finds the humor in it and wraps up any problem in 30 minutes. It's still a very good show, the formula exists for a reason.

reply

Yeah, exactly. I like the show but the formula the show follows that hubcap18 described can't be said to be unique by any means. This show just does it better than most (in my opinion) because Gaffigan is so affable and NY as a setting is more interesting than a set of a family home in an LA studio.

reply

You are so right....maybe thematically a repeat, but definitely done better. I've never been to New York, but seen a million LA sets. This ricks.
