Jim Gaffigan pulls the plug on this show...

Just saw on Twitter that he is not going forward after two seasons; basically too much work for him and his wife.

There is probably more to it, but disappointing nonetheless. Loved seeing Gaffigan and Goldberg on screen together.

reply

What a pity. I loved this show, especially the last episode, which I think was the best of the lot.

reply

I think ol' Jimmy is full of it, especially considering how TVLand burned the last two episodes in one night.

reply

Usually I would agree, but what winner does TVLand have where they can be so selective? It's not like this was on a high stakes channel like CBS. I have seen repeats airing on Comedy Central though.

Yes, it appears that TV Land was ready to see it go away:

It was a middling sitcom, anyway. The second season was markedly better than the first, but it was still a safe, basic, sitcom with not many surprises. Maybe next time they can actually say something more than people were already saying in the 1960s.

Please send me a list of the "sitcoms" you watch. If this was middling, I'd love to see what you watch and consider upper echelon.

If you saw this as one of the many fat guy/pretty wife sitcoms, you missed the many fine points.

But, to each their own.

May you receive all that Karma has to offer.

reply

The finer points like the old dopey fat man trope of getting into sticky situations and trying to hide how stupid he is from his wife every episode, because he doesn't want her to find out... but she always finds out? This brilliance can also be found in hit new sitcom "Kevin Can Wait".

Care to explain the nuance and finer points?

It wasn't a shambles of a series, and there were a few funny jokes. But it wasn't memorable, either.

Why would I bother? Your mind is already set. Not even sure why anyone takes issue of an opinion, especially one that's a month old.

I loved the show so I watched it, and I'm sorry there's no more. I'm able to avoid shows I don't find memorable.

Fair enough. The finer points are just a gut feeling, I guess. I don't blame anyone for liking whatever they like, so long as they don't take it personally that other people don't agree or need to make passive aggressive comments about criticism. I won't miss this series at all.

reply

That's a real shame. I thought season 2 was much better than the first and was really looking forward to what the third season would offer. It was an easy show to just chillout and watch. There's not enough easily accessible TV like that these days it seems.

reply

Didn't plan on watching season 3 anyway. I did watch all of season 2 but I thought it was pretty bad. Some episodes were really, really bad. Not sure what happened between the first season and this one but I'm not surprised it's not coming back.

reply

they cancel a perfectly good and watchable show and yet total trash like the many "reality" programs are still going strong? whatever.

btw... how could his wife say it was too much work? wasn't that an actress playing his wife on the show?
