I agree, it was all way too much. And not just on the emotional front.
I mean, let's mix an adulturous husband, an aspiring soccer player, a bisexual gynaecologist, a gay soccer scout, a CGI beating heart, a horrible traffic accident, a pregnancy during stage IV cancer, a Russian orphan first walking through the snow and then trowing crabs in the sea (yeah, I got the 'cancer' reference), a nipple in a gift box, a CGI closeup of a baby being removed by a pair of hands during a caesarean section procedure, a foursome in a sex club, melodramatic singing, a triangle love affair, or maybe it was more of a quarter, or maybe a quintet if you think about it.... come on, stop it already!
I had the impression this was trying to be a loving portrait of life, with sickness but also love and hope, and not a mad carnival ride through all corners of the galaxy.
Given the subject and what the film was trying to be, this film could have used a little more simplicity, restraint and "less is more", and it should have been about 30 minutes shorter if you ask me. What a cringeworthy, surreal experience this was...
Take two elements, or three maximum, out of the above list , and you could have had enough ingredients to make a decent film, given a sensible writer and a director who are not high on drugs, of course.
