1 billion?

If Captain Marvel did, well

reply

Black Widow making or not making $1 Billion has little if anything to do with what Captain Marvel did or didn't make.

Others are going the other way and stating that Black Widow and Marvel movies have peaked and that the trend is towards DC as no one is interested in Black Widow. WB/DC's Joker is now the Envy of Hollywood or the new "IT" in the Superhero film game.

She's not the 1st Female Superhero character from Marvel in a movie.
Girl or Women power can't be used to hype the movie
BW isn't a role model
Feminine narratives don't drive ticket sales alone.
Just slapping Marvel in the promo won't sell tickets
It is not tied into the Infinity Saga

All of those "so called" (plus a dozen other) talking points will have some impact on the Box Office.

Keep in mind that some of what you wrote didn't play much part in the marketing campaign, or success, of Captain Marvel. Very little was made of the fact that it was a female superhero. It was clear to all that the lead was female, but beyond that it was just another superhero film, and Marvel marketed it as such.

I'd also argue that this being a Marvel film will definitely boost sales. I'm not a big fan of action films, and I seldom see a superhero film unless I hear good things about it, but by this point I trust Marvel and make it a point to see any new MCU film on its Thursday night opening. I know many others feel the same, so yes, being a part of the MCU makes a big difference.

reply

Seconded.

Considering the movie industry, world economics, and the current social climate is somewhat useful, but looking at the past slate of movies should tell any thinking person that there's no reason Black Widow shouldn't do just fine.

Captain Marvel (AND Brie) was excoriated, and did a BILLION. The Marvel brand is still strong. Joker proved movies don't have to be mega-events. I don't know Any reasonable people that care about Marvel vs DC nonsense. From all reports, it's pretty much a straight-up badass spy genre movie.

Bottom line: NOBODY knows *how* well this will do, but Marvel hasn't had a loser yet, so if anyone's betting that this will be their first, I'll gladly take your money. And if WOM is good, Marvel has another hit on their hands.

Joker made 334 million in the US, not that impressive these days.

reply

Possibly. That was a damn good trailer.

reply

If no name Cap Marvel can do 1b with a not exactly popular lead, and this is the BW movie at last with MCU queen hottie Scarjo and theres Endgame connections (like SM:FFH) plus the trailer looked surprisingly decent.

1b for sure. Probably more

reply

Well Thor 3 didn't, no guarantee

reply

post IW/EG the MCU is bigger than ever so that should boost anything coming after that was going to make like 700-800m before to over 1b

Nothing lasts forever

I like the BW trailer, looks good. Although I don’t think BW is making 1 billion like Captain Marvel did.

reply

I'm sensing a flop. This doesn't continue the main Avengers storyline. The character isn't even part of the next phase. The heroine doesn't have any powers, why bother to watch it in the theater, just wait for DVD or streaming. Marvel is in trouble, and Disney with it.

I WAS THINKING THE SAME,THEN I SAW THE TRAILER...DAVID HARBOUR IS GONNA KILL IT...MY DAUGHTER AND I WILL BE THERE ON ITS SECOND WEEKEND OF RELEASE AS WE HAVE BEEN FOR THE LAST DOZEN MARVEL MOVIES OR SO.

reply
