The only thing good about this film...

... were Segal's fight scenes. And by that, I mean there wasn't a ton of ridiculously sped up, over foley-ed, shaky cam smoke and mirrors going on. There no WWE, ultimate fighting crap. It's pretty straight up, mano-a-mano ass kicking. The final duel with the "Chinese" arms dealer is short and to the point - as authentic as something you'd see from classic Toshiro Mifune.

On the other hand, everything else was off the charts in the a$$ sucking dept. Plot. Dialogue. Sets. Supporting cast. If Segal can still pull off authenticity in the fight scenes, I say its time for him to retire to choreograph fights in the big-budget-busters. I can't even count how many recent "blockbusters" I've literally fallen asleep during because the fight-action sequences are nothing but hide-the-bacon cinematographic trickery.

What he should do instead of making loads of low budget direct to dvd films is only make one film a year and combine all the budgets and make a film with a decent budget. That way he'd get better script writers and directors, actors etc.

That's what Steve needs to do. I really wish he'd make a decent film again. I've always followed his career but his later efforts have been poor, bad hair, bad wardrobe, bad dialogue, dubbing, body doubles the list goes on. He is the ultimate in kicking the crap out of the bad guys and I want him to make one last decent film as he cant keep doing this forever.

I feel as though he could do so much better.

Having said all that A Good Man is definitely one of his better efforts and I enjoyed it, I wasn't once bored. There was a lot to like about it. His other films of late haven't been up to scratch. I'd give it 3.0 out of 5.0. Having Tzi Ma in it was good and upped the quality of the production. For a change the majority of the acting was better and overall it was better than anything he has done of late. The cops weren't very good though! I liked the Sascha character, the actor who played him fitted the role well. The fights were well done and I liked Stevens performanance in it. The story wasnt disjointed and actually made sense and wasn't a mess. The music actually was quite good as well and suited the movie. When Steven puts more effort in he's still got it. The ending with Alexander and Lena was understandable but wasn't really necessary, they could have quite easily left that out.

In conclusion we've seen this type of movie many times before but it was enjoyable entertainment. I think all the elements came together for this one and it turned out to be an enjoyable action thriller.

My bench mark is if I enjoy the movie that's good enough for me even if it is cliche or not perfect.

Most of us would agree.. selfishly speaking ... however you have to look at it from 'his' end.
A big budget movie carries big risks and far from guarantee of success. If it flops he's a goner.
By making low budget made for TV/streaming he KNOWS he can at least get some payout.. not tens of millions but still make decent coins.

If he makes a $50M movie and it takes in like $20M he is basically toast!

I agree with that.
