internet needs to chill

it's fine. the acting, lighting, directing, writing, etc are all fine. in some scenes they are great. full disclosure i did used to be very loosely acquainted with one of the people who was involved but whatever.

the main thing that a mainstream audience will have a problem with in connecting to the film is that the stakes are so low.

in real life, standing up for your beliefs means sacrifice. like losing a job. alienating a bunch of important people, forever. being blackballed from an industry. divorce.

look at what is happening to Kesha or Snowden or Dylan Farrow or the Bill Cosby victims or the Penn State victims or any of the countless people who stand up for what is right. They dont just go against a handful of people, they are going against the leaders of industry, the pillars of the community, the president, etc. And the consequences arent that "things work out in the end", the consequences can be losing your career, losing your home, being stuck in court for 15 years, going bankrupt, becoming homeless, etc.

so its a fine movie but for most people they are not going to feel the weight of the question. they deal with heavier stuff every day and the answer they come up with is usually a compromise for survival, not a brave stand to the common wisdom.
