Self Absorbed Under cooked Mess

This shallow movie that's dressed up to be some kind of goofy, fun Kramer vs. Kramer is a hollow, self absorbed,
mess. I cannnot stand the whimsical attempts of this director toward love or how she treated relationships or above all the films commentary on marriage.
What this is is a bunch of privileged characters written by privileged people. In terms of characterization, gerwig's character being the worse, undervalues what it takes to keep a marriage going: That ingredient is commitment.
What is really laughable is not the movie but the people on this board actually writing how "cute" Gerwig is and her character. That she's "lovable" and endearing..." Wow.
I know the world of academia and I understand the inside joke of the narcissism that goes with it. The irony is that I find the director and writers to be projecting a brand of their own.
This is hollywood for you. Hollywood is a place where cynical, debauched, hedonistic, broken self absorbed perspectives are thrown onto the page and screen. And cheating is treated with eye rolls and shoulder shrugs.

In terms of Gerwig, there is absolutely, nothing, I mean nothing special about this actress. I don't care about her either way. She's ok like my neighbor is ok or my buddy whose a 5th grade teacher. On a normal day Gerwig is as bland as milque toast or sugarless porridge.
And there's nothing special about how this material was handled.
This movie is the direct result of a privileged life, surrounded by privileged people, completely out of lock step with any kind of ennui or grit or the everyday struggle of the world. Comedy or not, this is nothing more than a superficial depiction of relationships, concocted by those whose tastes are not only remote but found wanting.

Ever since "annie hall", young woman wearing goofy clothes is shorthand for irresistible and adorable. By now it's an exhausted cliche.
