Also that looked so real. I thought they might have actually killed a real pony, but John C. Reilly dropped out of a Von Trier film because the director was going to slaughter a donkey, so I doubt he'd be onboard with killing a pony!
Anyone want to chime in on that opening scene? What did it mean?

shareI think it was a donkey. And yeah, it may have been someone whom the woman hated so much as a person that she also wanted to kill him as an animal. Ex-husband maybe?

sharethis scene makes me wonder too, I theorize the donkey is probably a person she really upset or despise. after watching the movie, I think maybe he/she divorce her those making both of them have trouble and go to "the hotel", only she survived the ordeal. Curiously, there was another donkey that approached the dead donkey . . . a friend at the hotel?? I theorize this because there was a scene where David's friend that suggest to become a parrots together.
shareI took it as a mercy killing by the woman, that maybe it was someone she really cared about as a human so she killed it to put her friend/family member out of their misery.
