Don't Listen to the Haters!

I actually discovered this show after Parks and Recreation got done, and I fell instantly in love with it! If your sense of humor is one that enjoys show like Parks and Rec then you'll like this show show too.

The complaints I've seen for it are really ridiculous like, "too much reading." Like what? Are people really THAT lazy lol

reply

"Too much reading" is a dumb criticism. A more reasonable one would be that the show is terribly written and acted. Poehler is a talentless putz who shamelessly piggybacked on his sister's fame, talent and years of hard work to get this steaming present of a show on the air. It is not shocking that the one network that makes the stupidest possible programming choices at every possible turn is the one that picked up this travesty twice. #NBCexecsaremorons

It's a summer fill-in show for them, and it's basically a rebroadcast of the shows that have already aired in Sweden. It's cute, it's fluffy, and it probably didn't cost them much. They don't really need for it to be a big hit, it has its following (including myself).

Fair enough.

This show is brillz. It is so funny. And filmed very well. Lena Olin is a treasure. Really the entire cast is on point. I love them all. The dad, so sweet. Beautiful folk and country.

Show is amazing and fun. I love the subtitles, I didn't even know this was a thing now (a mainstream show with subtitles). I love listening to languages and get excited if I can understand a word or two on my own :P

I'm American, btw, so hopefully that shows not all of us are retarded when it comes to "reading".

reply

Really enjoyed this show i thought it was funny with some great characters, Lena Olin's character was my favourite.

It was also great and surprising that there was some bad language thrown in,and sure enough when i find this show i also find that it is to be cancelled, bummer.

reply

People aren't haters, just because they don't like something you like.

reply

yeah but the thing about someone just not enjoying something and being a hater, is that "haters" typically are unsatisfied with just moving on to something they do like. The tend to need to express how much they hated that thing and cant just agree to disagree. It's like they are offended that someone dare produce something not to their personal taste.

now I like this show and was disappointed to hear it was cancelled, and so i came on to the message board to discuss it, because i like it, it makes me happy, But "haters" well they came here to rain on other peoples parade, because they disliked it so much that they cant stand that someone else might like it, they are obsessed with it so much, that instead of finding something positive to do with their time they decided they would instead focus on something negative. and thats why they are "Haters"

nope

reply

I loved this show because it was more cute, and fun than straight out "hilarious." I don't really think it was meant to be that kind of comedy, it's supposed to be more something innocent (but not so with all the swearing lol). I am bummed it was cancelled but I can just watch the Sweden version since I don't believe it was cancelled over there.

reply

I just found out this show is canceled or something? what the hell, it's hilarious and wonderful! (Well, I've only just finished season 1.)

Damn you NBC. Always *beep* canceling. Cancel cancel cancel.

Could someone please explain precisely what they find "hilarious", "amazing" or "wonderful" (quotes from this thread) about this show?
Which scene/line (if any) really made you laugh out loud?
I love Amy Poehler, and Parks and Recreation is one of my favourite all-time comedy shows, and I really wanted to enjoy this, but it has none of the charm, interesting storylines or unusual characters of P&R.
It is not offensive or terrible, it's just so bland and "meh".
There is zero chemistry between Bruce and Emma, the brother's character is just dumb and poorly written, and the weak storylines meander along pointlessly.
We were informed that Bruce has to get a job because he suddenly has no money, but (unless I missed something) we are given no reason for this.
I keep watching in the hope that it will grow on me but I'm left unsatisfied at the end of every episode!
Yes, I know, I can stop watching, but I am really interested to know what it is that people find so good about it.
Oh, and if it makes anyone feel better to label me a "hater", feel free, it would only concern me if it was actually true!

Sure, I'll give it a shot.

- The culture shocks. It plays with the stereotypical views people have of both countries, and to some extent confirm them. As a Swede, I find the portrayal of my fellow Swedes and my home country to be pretty much spot on, if a little exaggerated.

Which scene/line (if any) really made you laugh out loud?
- A bunch of them. The one I still remember is when they break the bed, the dad walks in, and while Bruce in particular is really embarrassed at having been caught with his pants down, the dad casually shouts to his wife that the kids broke the bed *beep*

it has none of the charm, interesting storylines or unusual characters of P&R.
- Well, it's not P&R, and it's not entirely fair to expect them to be the same just because Amy Poehler is in both. WtS isn't written by the same people, as far as I'm aware.

- As the Swedish saying goes: taste is like a bottom - divided. ;)

the brother's character is just dumb and poorly written
- Sorry to break it to you, but people like that do exist in Sweden. Just like the uncle. So while the character might be pretty dumb, most of us know someone like that.

We were informed that Bruce has to get a job because he suddenly has no money, but (unless I missed something) we are given no reason for this.
- Amy (or someone) managed to freeze his assets in the US, because she wanted him to come back to the US and be her accountant. Something like that.

I just hope s2 is on Swedish Netflix next time we go over there. :)

I've been to Sweden just once and found the people to be open, friendly and intelligent, but that was for a week's holiday so I'm hardly an authority on your nation.
If you say the characters are authentically portrayed, who am I to argue?
I certainly didn't expect the 2 shows AP is in to be "the same", but I did expect them both to make me laugh.
This one didn't so we gave up after about 5 episodes as I think that is more than enough to realise if a show has value or not.
I like your Swedish saying about taste!

Posting that you like/enjoy something only attracts trolls ... (or in IMDB case professional trolls ... 15yr olds who create multiple screen names and who try to sound like they are Degreed critics with whiney substances, until they go to the next board and attempt to nit-pick and stir up b.s.) .. If ya enjoyed the run of this series .. good for you .. Perhaps more series like this will be made in the future ..
