An underwelming "Sequel" to the often hated, but enjoyable TEKKEN (2010)

Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge is a mediocre martial arts movie with too little action. A lot of build up but little payoff, like when Kazuya finally confronts Heihachi Mishima.

Now the film isn't exactly unwatchable, but it didn't offer me a whole lot. The previous live-action film was more fun, and I also like the two animated movies more. Keep in mind I have never played the video games, nor do I intend to. This film shares little to no continuity with the first movie, so I guess calling it a sequel or prequel seems inappropriate. So much so I wonder if this was intended to be a TEKKEN film to begin with, and Crystal Sky Pictures simply altered "AGENT X" at the last minute. Even the character of Kazuya is nothing like he was in the original. In fact maybe Kane Kosugi should've been playing Lars Alexandersson, Heihachi's second son, a character introduced in the Tekken 6 video game. Lars actually suffered from amnesia. It might have made slightly more sense in relation to the first film.

But despite the title, this movie feels more like a reboot. An origin story setting up a possible sequel that actually involves the Iron Fist tournament. If the budget was right, I've love to see a follow-up film about the tournament and include more characters from the video games.
