American greed for fame at its finest

Seriously this man finds a severed leg and tries to capitalize off of it? Poor man that survived the crash has to fight for his severed leg to be returned? Only in America will a person try to get famous trying to hold onto a body part that clearly isn't his. This just makes me sad.

I'm sure you can find crazy people looking for fame across the world.

reply

While all you say is true, I find it even more appalling someone made a movie about it. Hollyweird knows no bounds.

reply

It's a documentary, dude. A small crew telling a story about something through film. It's not like hollywood made a major motion picture dramatizing what happened. If anything, it shows us how disgusting and fame greedy people in our society can be. Nothing appalling about that.

reply

Hollyweird knows no bounds.

This isn't a Hollywood movie. But I wouldn't expect someone who says, "Hollyweird" to be able to differentiate.

Agreed. Unfortunately this is the norm of the age we now live in.

It always amazes me when someone writes "American ...." or "only in America." I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that is truly ignorant. You need to read more. If you think that anything, anything whatsoever, no matter how greedy, weird or bizarre only happens in the US, then you are truly deceived. Things like this happen everywhere the world over. As for greed, you should try some of the oil nations. Then you can learn about greed. There are other nations than the US, try learning about them.

Try learning how to write the English language!

It's not just greed. It's also shows how some people are incredibly delusional. They think there is something special about them and they should be famous. Shannon somehow thought he was funny. The funniest thing about that dumb redneck was how he kept saying "perspire" when he meant "transpire".

reply

Yes, very unfortunate, delusional, low intelligence guy who thinks he's funny and that he should be famous. Pitiful, and oh yes, "perspire."

reply

Fact is he did turn a ridiculous story into a small amount of fame. It did work. We're here posting about it. We all just watched a documentary about it. As much as you want to knock Shannon, he did achieve his goal. He did parlay this whole thing into something.

reply

Yes, but at what cost to his family... They seemed so embarrassed and appalled at how far he'd go to be on camera. His wife wanted to hide in her house when she figured it all out.

reply

Well, one man's abandoned leg is another man's treasure. It came out during the documentary that that Shannon guy had some serious childhood issues where he constantly needed attention and wanted to be famous. He claimed his dad beat him often. You kind of figured out why he is the way he is, but later on he said he could turn his tears off and on...and threw a fit over that reality show. They didn't make him look like a fool. He does it all on his own. I can't believe what his family has to put up with, and his wife seems embarrassed as hell. He seems like an egomaniac whose looking for his 15 minutes of fame, or to be the next Billy Bob Thornton.  It's so ridiculous.
