Domergue Last Name - Spoiler!

I don't know if anyone has brought this up, but something stuck out at me tonight as I was watching this. Daisy Domergue's brother is Jody Domingre. He's the leader of the Jody Domingre gang. Now, they're siblings so wouldn't it stand to reason they have the same last name? And I could be wrong, but I never heard any of the men in the gang, or Daisy herself, say the same "Domergue". Domergue and Domingre aren't the same, but they're quite similar. It may be a stretch, but could it be that her last name is actually Domingre and it's been lost in translation by the authorities over the years or just flat out mispronounced? Or is it possible that maybe she goes by Domergue, a slight variation of her actual last name, to hide the fact that she's not part of the gang to protect herself or something? Their names are too close for that to be a coincidence!

Spoilers...

For a brother and sister, they seemed almost too close. Take the couple minutes where he came out of the trap door. The way they looked at each other made me think they had something else going on. So if they've got an incestuous relationship going on, that's what they may want to keep secret from everyone outside the gang. After all, the gang will accept them for who they are. The rest of society, not so much.

I just took it as they have a difficult name to pronounce correctly. Everyone else in the movie just pronounces it phonetically when it's actually something else.

I watched this for the 4th time last night and didn't notice it until someone I was watching it with brought it up. So I came here to see if anyone else had anything to say about it and here you are. I feel like theres got to be something there. I want to assume its someone maybe spelled it wrong on a wanted poster or on bounty papers or something like that. and just through word of mouth, it has been changed to Domergue, rather than Domingre. That's my guess, but maybe it is her intention to have a fake last name to help hide her identity.

Also, I totally disagree with the incestuous relationship thing mentioned here. I think the reason they give each other a long look is because they feared they would never see each other alive again. And they are happy to see each other, brother and sister. They are in a gang together so of corse they are close. Anything sexual between them is entirely the viewer's projection onto them. I doubt they would care enough to hide anything like that from people and not whatever they did in the gang to make themselves wanted criminals.

The way I saw it was John Ruth, who clearly isn't an intellectual by any sense of the imagination, butchered the pronunciation of her name, either because he has no idea how to pronounce a surname like "Domergue" or he purposely butchered it so he wouldn't let someone like Maj. Warren know who he was traveling with. In the final chapter, when she explains who Jody is, pay close attention to Maj. Warren's face. The INSTANT after she mentions the Domergue Gang, Maj.Warren realizes who Daisy and all the living inside Minnie's, apart from himself and Chris, are.

"KatTS" / "M" / "LLL" / "KoC-VoT" / "NA"

Yes. She even emphasizes the pronunciation. I thought it was clear she was correcting Ruth's mispronunciation.

Everything that everyone has mentioned are good points, however, it doesn't explain why English Pete pronounced it "Domergue" when reading the warrant that Ruth gave him. So either Daisy has a slightly different last name (or totally different name due to marriage) or Ruth and the law don't know Daisy's correct last name (or English Pete mispronounces it the same way).

Ruth was pronouncing it wrong, because he was a dumbass..
Warren had heard of the gang, but since Ruth was pronouncing wrong, Warren didn't tie Daisy to the gang.
Warren realize later she is part of the gang.

reply

The characters were just saying her name wrong.

It's a movie where nothing is what it seems, not even her actual name.

If not told who it was, I wouldn't have believed who played Daisy!  

Im new to the thread but have often checked this board on my way to viewing this great film for last 100 times, so i just wanted to say that John Ruth needs glasses to read and most likely considered Daisy "Whatever her name is", a small piece of business...despite the somewhat intimate relationship depicted. I didnt even notice the name resemblance for at least 20 viewings so i doubt Warren did either
