Why was there such a dilemma?

I don't understand why it was such a dilemma to do the surgery. The bio dad was not unwilling to go through with the actual donation. He just wouldn't go back to that town. Why couldn't they just transport the daughter and do the surgery where the guy lived? I'm not a doctor, but it clearly wasn't a very long drive, since the mom went back and forth a couple times and the daughter drove there herself. It shouldn't have been a problem to do that. Certainly less hassle than trying to pay off this criminal dude and ultimately make the guy risk his life. Yet the possibility never even got mentioned. It drove me crazy the entire second half of the movie.

I thought the same thing for the test. Why couldn't he do it in his town and have the test results submitted to the other hospital?

I turned to another channel in the middle but was there a reason Dan couldn't go to the police? I'm sure there is one, I just don't know what it is.

Never do something permanently foolish just because you are temporarily upset!

From what I could see of the GPS when Katie took her mother's car, it looked like he was just across the border in Iowa.

If you were trying to start your life over undetected by leaving Wisconsin, wouldn't going across the border to CANADA make more sense?

Why didn't she give the money to Dan instead? He could have the surgery then use her money to relocate and start over again farther than a day's drive away.

Agreed, that was silly. And for someone that felt so threatened by the bad guy, why would he choose to live so close, if the bad guy was truly that bad I am sure he could have easily found him. Also how did the mom take out a second mortgage on her house without the hubby's knowledge, her voice was also so monotone it drove me crazy. So much wrong with this movie.

I think there was a hurried conversation in which the bio dad was concerned about his medical records which would jeopardise his hidden true ID. I didn't quite catch it all. But I suppose he would still in danger of his identity coming to light even if he had arranged the donation to take place in his new location.
