IMDb disable message boards on February 20, 2017.

Since the message boards are going away, I just want to thank everyone for the countless hours of enjoyment we've shared making fun of this show. I'll be sad to see these boards go.

What other message boards do you guys use? Does anyone know of anything close to imdb's boards? I'm not interested in Facebook, twitter, snapsomething, photowhatever, but maybe I'll catch you on the next one...

Based on the Oak Island board there, I'd say reddit is the closest to the IMDB boards.

The message boards are the main reason I use IMDb.

Same here, which is why I'm all sad. I suspect imdb's use will drop significantly. Perhaps then they'll bring back the boards, but I doubt it. Unfortunately, every other site I've ever used for commenting has removed their comments sections (i.e. Sports Illustrated, various local news sites, Yahoo). Bummer.

imdb is mad conservative thoughts are the majority of comments ,, so once again the ''tolerant'' left will silence any thoughts they do not agree with or can control ... it's all good they will see at least a 50% drop in daily visitors ,, i'm sure all their advertisers will love that ;)

I know IMDb deleted a few pro-conservative threads that contained historical facts (i.e. Republicans have always had a better record on Civil Rights issues throughout every decade). Evidently, those at imdb either didn't care to learn about U.S. history or wanted to prevent others from learning historical facts. Oh, well...

Upon hearing of the demise of the IMDb message boards, the denizen of the Money Pit, Harold the Megalodon uttered, "Can't have nothin' nice."

To which Marty Laguna replied, "That's Oak Island for ya!"

Startling Dave Blankenship and causing him to topple into 10x and mumble one last, "Crown time!"

Dan Bluelips then looked for a piece of wood to sniff and lick because, well, he's batsh!T crazy. He also realized his OI obsession prevented him from selling the island to the Lagina crew sooner thus preventing him from spending his $3.5M payday before he died.

Jack Begley jumped into a latrine to put himself out of his miserable existence as Marty and Rick's go-fer.

Craig Tester was speechless.

Charles Barkhouse just smirked and calculated how much longer he could string the Lagina brothers along and pad his retirement accounts so he could retire to a real island in the Caribbean.

Rick Lagina thought to himself, "Screw the friendships, how much longer can I blackmail my brother?" Why else would anyone literally pour truckloads of money into holes in the ground?

And last, and certainly least, Jeffry Jovan Philyaw fell on his Roman sword.

IMDb's layout/structure is probably the best I've seen - much better than IMDb v2.0. Imagine if IMDb didn't have sub-forums under each movie/actor/television show and everything was grouped together. That's kind of how v2.0 is right now - at least at a glance.

Does anyone know of any message board with a similar layout/structure to imdb?

Edit: I would actually pay a yearly fee to keep these boards open - and I've never been willing to pay for any other message boards. Maybe that's IMDb's plan. They shut it down and reopen it as a pay-for-post board.

Just came on here to say same thing, thanks to all for all the fun times.

I concur, while there are trolls abound, I prefer IMDb's layout over other boards by far. For the most part we were always dealing with movie and TV "people" and had something to contribute to a show or film.

I would like to add this...how many of you are NOT going to come on here nearly as much or basically not at all without the boards? I really can't see much of a reason to. I can find out most same facts from Wikipedia or Google. It was nice to be able to discuss, or in this case, laugh at a show if you were just blown away by something...like the utter silliness of this show. It was nice to know I by far wasn't the only person thinking "what is this?"

I will not be coming to IMDB anymore unless I truly have to. As a matter of fact, while watching tv today, I was told a certain actress used to be on old tv commercials. I went to search for her, and IMDB & Wiki were the first two choices - guess which one I picked?!!
I went right to Wiki, as I refuse to use IMDB from now on. They dont care enough about their followers, so I will actively try not to give them any more web traffic if possible.

I couldn't have said it better myself...I've done the same thing recently with searches and just went to Wikipedia, just basic searches for a name or production information.

In fact now I remember what it was...I like the Showtime show The Affair. And I was wondering if the last episode we saw was the season finale. Went to Wiki. And it was right there....

side note: I wasn't the only one confused by the last episode...just odd...and there's usually 12 episodes not just 10. And I did come here to discuss it a bit and say I was also confused, didn't seem like a season finale, etc.. BUT without that discussion, why bother??

I think that is the biggest reason why I come to IMDb...

I see something in a show or movie, that I don't quite understand, and I'll come to these message boards to ask questions and to try to understand what I saw...

Movie Plots? Cast Lists? Release Dates? I don't have to come here. I can get that just about anywhere else.

But since I come here for the Message Boards, I will usually look up that common information too...

IMDb mentioned all the users who come to their site, but only a few use these boards... USE? Ha! I bet it is the otherway around. People come to use the boards, just not everyday. But they are used to using this website... So they do come here everyday to look up the other things I mentioned, and then once in awhile, they will post on the boards.

When these boards are gone, I'll still stop by for those other things. There are some unique details other sites don't have... but it won't be as often as I do know.

Since IMDb won't be able to answer my questions anymore, I'll be spending most of my time now on other websites.

I am sure, after they close these boards, they'll watch their website usage fall dramatically, and lose money... and then they will say to themselves... "What Happened?"

I don't want to see this website go out of business, but it will be their fault. Not ours.

The amount of people they are going to lose over this, will eventually doom the entire site.
How many people use the free site/ and how many pay?
It's probably 98-99% to 1-2%.
When the traffic dries up because the boards are closing the ad revenue will drop so significantly, they will eventually shut down.

I won't be coming back. I can watch movie trailers, see show times and who stars in what on other sites. The only reason I use this site is for the boards.

Aside from the occasional "I know I've seen that guy/girl in something else", I can't think of a reason to come here at all now. I find that every time any site closes discussion, I wind up visiting less or not at all after a while.

I posted a thread about making a discussion board, by the community for the community. if you could add it as an option for the community. People get to vote on software, update requests, and other functionalities.
