I dont understand!!!! WHY!

why don't we go into these african countries, and take the animals away!!???!!!
why don't we just go in, take away all the elephants, gorillas, and every other endangered animal, load them onto ships, and bring them to America, Australia, new zealand, or which ever country which will keep them safe!!!
countries in africa should not have these animals, therefore is up to us to protect them! and if presidents or dictators don't want us taking them, we should just say, sorry, we are not taking no for an answer as this is more important than us! bigger than mankind and what ever wealth , money or luxury lifestyle we live, this is about saving species from bring abused and going extinct!

it's time we went to war for the animals!

reply

Maybe you should call Noah if you think it's that easy, you Dolt!!!

reply

They are not yours to take.

However I do vote we take all your money and assets and donate them to the park to keep it running.

What? You might object to that? Well, now you know how the Congolese might feel.

reply

it's not yours to take? when did that ever stop humans from taking something which wasn't theirs?

open a history book by friend.

and to the idiot who is talking about Noahs arc, well, we have oil tankers, cruise liners, ship builders, we can build super boats, or use old cruise ships and load hundreds of endangered animals on there, it will not be that hard actually.
the romans use to do it back in 100BC!!! they use to bring lions, elephants and all kinds of animals from africa to rome! and slaughter them for sport, in the thousands every year.. I am sure we can transport them to a better life..
before its too late.

reply

Then you go take them not my friend.

Of course, they are still not yours to take.

Coffeeman,
I feel so frustrated too and wish there was an answer. Don't pay attention to the insults. People are moved by this documentary but feel powerless and it makes us/them angry.
I thought about your suggestion, but then realized that the animals will die in transit and that the whole point is to NOT ZOO-ify these wonderful creatures anymore than we should have put American Indians on reservations. It is even worse for the animals to be taken from their natural habitat. The point is to protect them in their rightful place, Virunga. You see how fragile one of the babies was, how much they feared noise even. That baby died in a short time because the vet could not get to him.

But you should not have to bear insult for offering your opinion.

We can never duplicate a natural habitat in a zoo or a "sanctuary." Most sanctuaries have proven themselves hell for animals.
Gorillas are so unhappy in zoos, being stared at, laughed at. One in our city takes to throwing things at visitors in anger and despair. One of our elephants developed horrible life=threatening feet problems because of her poor zoo environment. And yet she was at terrible risk in being transported out.

The only solution I can see would be military--and how could we do that? We do not want war worse than it is in that lace.

So then negotiating?

What can WE do?!

reply

their natural habitat is africa, i don't think that taking them away from that is the answer. the answer is finding other ways for people to make money and not live in such poverty to the point that they feel this is something they need to do. i also would want them to be educated on the effects that their actions have on the environment around them, as i bet they do not understand that. sad to say but greed is an inherent trait that is the #1 cause of problems in the world.

reply

so much for the message board of this doc being a place for intelligent discussion... is the OP high?! You can't remove wild animals from their natural habitat in an effort to be humane. If nothing else, this movie depicts the beauty of virunga as a natural park, and the animals who have called it their home for years. The importance of the park and it's inhabitants is why the Rangers so valiantly risked their lives in the first place. Maybe you need to watch the movie again, and this time try easing off on the caffeine

reply

The logistics of that are impossible at best.

reply

Africa is their natural environment. And not all of them could fit and/or survive just being taken away.

reply

You don't just go and strip wild animals from their homes and habitats like that

reply

of course you can! we do it already, look at zoos. there is land all over the world where these animals can live easily. its about survival.
Im not saying take every animal! of course not, but taking every breed and setting up wildlife parks for every animal in other parts of the world so their numbers can increase and they dont go extinct.

that way we have every animal protected like we have the seed back.
keeping them all in place, is not a good move.

it take be done. easily..

You are a *beep* idiot ...
