Not Rated- Question about younger kids

Unfortunately, this movie is not rated. I have 8 & 9 year old daughters who are interested in nature and animals and are just beginning to figure out how this world works. I realize this is more of a geopolitical documentary than a nature documentary, so would this be too intense to watch with an 8 or 9 year old? What is an appropriate age?

It would be nice if somebody credible (who isn't a religious organization or the MPAA) could rate movies like this.

FYI, I watched it first and I'm glad I did. It is an important and well-done documentary, but not something appropriate for my kids. I will treat it as a PG-13, though it would probably receive an R from the MPAA due to multiple F-bombs dropped by some bad guys.

I'm sure what you are most concerned about your kids seeing is a whole bunch of dead gorillas and other animals. This film isn't as bad as some films on similar subjects but there are 2 or 3 scenes where they do show dead, poached animals. There's a fairly graphic and kind of lengthy (meaning 2 minutes or so as opposes to just a quick flash on the screen) one involving gorillas and one with an elephant. There is something very sad that happens towards the end of the film but what happens isn't graphic or violent, just sad.

There is some war violence that goes on for a bit but it's not really graphic. They show doctors helping the wounded... Again, its not too intense.

As another poster said, there are a couple of shady characters who drop the f bomb a few times.

Hope that helps and gives some good information that will help you decide if you think your kids are mature enough to handle it.

I would agree that it is probably a PG-13 movie. There are a number of intense scenes well described bu the previous writer. It does have a couple of hero worthy characters that will appeal to the kids, but the odds are stacked so massively against these people and the gorillas that you and your kids could be depressed. Still it does end with a call for help and if you want to help turn your kids intO activists this shows the way.

It is hard to tell these days if people are dumb or trolling.

There is plenty (over 3200 hrs) of gorgeous, high-production-value material:
*Natural World
David Attenborough's [insert title]
Expedition [insert title]
Extraordinary People
Horizon
Nature
Nova
Human Planet
Life
Amazing Places

Children as young as 8 or 9 wouldn't understand all the political issues involved, and IMHO the dead animals and language are a little too graphic for kids that age; wait until they're teenagers before showing them something this intense.
