Lt. Rudy never breaks a sweat, and has phone service no matter where he is on Earth - even an island volcano in the middle of the ocean with gushing lava - 5 bars!!!!!

They cut the scene where he was underwater about 4 miles down and was getting 5 bars, along with his first manned flight to mars calling his friend in the submarine.
