Math of Mountain Man, what did he do for 26 years after finishing ?

At end of movie, it says

" 52 years after he started breaking the mountain

30 years after he finished breaking the mountain

4 years after his death, Govt made a road "



Using this and fact that DM lived from 1934-2007 (73 years)

52-4 = 48 years before his death, he started breaking the mountain which means he started at 25 years of age

He lived for 30-4 = 26 years after finishing the mountain..Overall he lived for 73 years, which means he spent 73 - (25+26)

years breaking the mountain or 22 years..He finished at age of 51..

I wonder what he did for 26 years after finishing, did he go through any struggles..Obviously he has because government didn't make a road till 4 years after he died and only 4 years ago as of today...

But more curiously, did he pursue any other work? I am sure a man like that wouldn't have just laid back for 26 years? Did he suffer from any disease?

The film doesn't say anything about that, maybe it was uninteresting? But I highly doubt that!!
