I feel like they just put a blind fold on + random picked actors...

...to play these iconic parts. Kristen Chenoweth as Maleficent? Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen? The other two actors playing Jafar and Cruella don't bother me but OMG what the hell? I'm not trying to be a bitch about this but WOW this a bunch of miscasting. REALLY bad. Wow.

You hit the nail on the head. "Descendants" is an intriguing concept; I have been hoping to eventually see all of the princess' children in animation, since it's pretty much a given that all or most of them would end up with at least one, eventually. But the live-action casting for this movie seems so random! I mean, I love Kristen and Kathy, I really do...but huh?!? If anything, I would've expected them to pick Idina Menzel for Maleficent. Kristen is so...adorable and small and has a high-pitched voice. Maleficent is imposing, statuesque, intimidating, with a much deeper vocal tone, and just 'darker' overall. I hope this is one of those cases where the magic of costuming, makeup, and camera tricks can turn the least likely actor into the iconic character.

And then with Kathy--when I think of her, I think of Hocus Pocus. Now, again, it's not that I advocate typecasting and pigeonholing. But, she is kind of a character actor. She just has that distinctive sort of look, and comedy is her forte. No offense to her whatsoever, but I don't know that I can picture her as even an aged Evil Queen. Maybe this is going to be her hag form, in which case they'll have to give her more makeup and costuming than she had in Hocus Pocus.

The other big, obvious question pertains to exactly when and with whom these villains had these children (and all basically named them after themselves.) As someone else pointed out, they all died at the ends of their films, except for Jafar...and as far as we know, genies can't reproduce. Especially not in the form of human kids. It's almost certain he didn't father this son during the other two Aladdin movies; uh, maybe that little cartoon series? If that's even canon, which it's probably not? So I'm going to have to assume that they had these children already, prior to the films' events, and that there were simply no sightings or mentions of them whatsoever. The kids were just...irrelevant, somewhere else, uninvolved in their parents' wicked doings. It's quite weird and confusing, I know. Would've made more sense to do a "princess kids" movie or series--to tie in with the "Palace Pets," perhaps.

At first I wondered why they chose these four particular villains to give kids to, but then I realized it's probably because they strike the balance of being popular, recognizable human characters from some of the most popular Disney films. Animal or part-animal villains, less popular or iconic ones, less-evil ones, or gods who don't have offspring anyway just wouldn't work for a smaller live-action production. Unless they were going all-out and designing "juniors" for every last villain, the only other ones they MIGHT have been able to consider would have been Gaston, Captain Hook, Mother Gothel, Yzma, Facilier, Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Frollo (lol), or Hans--but Frozen and other recent movies might be a bit too new for this classics-focused little project.

And Lady Tremaine already had two daughters, so, yeah.

The ONLY people I feel like actually deserve to be in this is Kristen and Kathy, I absolutely HATE all of these Disney kids they can't act and are really ugly plus what's up with who they are playing none of them fit their character's description... The ONLY reason I will be seeing this is because of Kristen and Kathy otherwise I could care less.

I know...if this had nothing to do with established, beloved characters, then Kristen and Kathy would be the only cast members making me want to see it. The ONLY young "Disney Channel star" I like, if she'd even be considered one, is little Francesca Capaldi from Dog With a Blog. (Because I actually find her fairly funny/talented, her hair looks exactly like mine, and her character is somewhat similar to me at her age as well. xD)

i miss the times when disney actually got RANDOM kids who didn't act on their shows to be in their movies, gotta kick it up, brink, color of friendship, all of the movies the Lawrence brothers were in, etc. NONE of those people had disney shows of their own, they were just random young actors who did the job. and i think that's why a lot of these disney movies and shows are unenjoyable today. they grab kids who have already been on previous shows and give them their own show, Lindsey from dwab is about to get a show called stuck in the middle; and they also give them movies or make them become singers. like just STOP lol we're over them stop shoving them down our throats. i admire G Hannelius because although she's one of the many who came from previous disney shows and got her own, i don't think she'll be on disney anymore, at least having a show of her own. she's starting a clothing line and a nail business called Make Me Nails. She's doing her own thing and hopefully moving on much like bridgit mendler did. overall i get totally what you're saying, we get enough of these kids on their whack shows, give us some new child actors who can do the job and SLAY :P
