Civil War Fans?

I wonder if the director, Kenny Ortega, and the writers, Josann McGibbons and Sara Parriott, are fans of the US Civil War.

Naming characters is always a problem because there are countless thousands of available personal and family names. It always helps to try to think of any logical or fanciful connection between a character's attributes and a name, so that some name will seem more right or obvious than all the countless others.

You may notice that Ben's name is alliterative with his parents' names Belle and the Beast. But is there anything else that makes Ben more obvious than other names that begin with B?

So I wonder if the creators of Descendants are fans of the US Civil War and thus decided that Benjamin was the most fitting name for a son of a beast.
