Chronology

Hey guys, this new addition to the ever expanding MCU is making me wonder when exactly does it take place in the whole MCU timeline.

I know that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes place after Iron-Man 3, but my question is, does this One Shot take place after Iron-Man 3 but right before AOS? If not then when?

Oh boy yeah...

I can't think of anything in this one-shot that determines placement among the other Marvel projects. It's clearly after IM3 (since Trevor has been in jail for a while) but that's it.

By virtue of being after IM3 it has to be well after Avengers and the other Phase I films but it could be before or during AoS. I'm sure they did this somewhat on purpose so they can be flexible with it later if they need to.

Otherwise they could have put some sort of reference to AoS in there (another background prisoner or something).

Reading my signature constitutes admission that I am correct. (Too late)

I get the feeling that it was after all current movie continuity (so after CA:TWS at least). I'm sure it would have been mentioned somewhere about the most high profile terrorist since Bin Laden escaping from prison (even if he was a stooge), like during talks regarding project insight.

The thing about the One Shots is, their 'release date' is a really bad indicator of where they fit chronologically. You really need to watch them to see where they're intended to fit.

For example: A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer obviously occurs during the events of Thor (as well as possibly slightly overlapping with the end of IM2); The Consultant takes place after The Incredible Hulk and bookends the mid-credits scene between Stark and General Ross. Agent Carter comes somewhere between the Agent Carter series and the rest of the MCU.

As for Hail To The King, while nothing in the footage suggests a specific date or links to events in another film as such, the dialogue tends to suggest the Trevor has been in prison for a relatively short time - a few weeks to a couple months. There have been exposés and such, with a 60 Minutes knock-back, and his 'celebrity' status is still growing. Plus, I don't see The Ten Rings (and the real Mandarin) wasting a lot of time trying to get their hands on him. I would place HTTK well before the start of AoS.
